The idea being that if you had a web site whose primary value was text that people are paying a fee to read, and a paying subscriber copies out all the text and makes a competing site, how could you identify stolen text? None of this text is public, so LLM scraping isn't the threat. Competitors scraping and reusing the knowledge is the threat. I'm asking for a friend who's concerned (trying to make a startup where much of the value is his own IP). The whale is sometimes incorrectly taken as a play on his name Rogge (Rog = ray), but refers to Rogge's paper mill: "De Walvis" (Whale).
