Dave 🦔<p>Asking for <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/recommendations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recommendations</span></a>. I want to switch to a GDPR-state <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/webhost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>webhost</span></a> where it's easy to run multiple things:<br>1) static professional website for my research life, <br>2) something like <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> / <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Owncloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Owncloud</span></a> for<br>- syncing contacts & photos, perhaps w/local AI for organization<br>- collaboration via <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/OnlyOffice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OnlyOffice</span></a><br>3) my own <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/gitlab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gitlab</span></a>, <br>4) easy deployment of other software like <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Plex" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Plex</span></a>, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Funkwhale" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Funkwhale</span></a>, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Grocy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Grocy</span></a>, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a>, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/OwnTracks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OwnTracks</span></a>, etc</p><p>Ideally i can use one or more domains, have encrypted backups, and separate concerns (eg if i want to keep professional and personal content separate).</p><p>For >15 years my <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/webhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>webhosting</span></a> budget has been 120 USD/yr, but only for personal professional sites or blogs. I understand this could cost substantially more, but if it makes it easy to have my own cloud and play with different software & backups, I'm willing to pay. </p><p>Also happy for any reading suggestions about modern webhosting considerations, including things like object storage and when to use that.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/PleaseBoost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PleaseBoost</span></a></p>
