Does anyone on fedi know an easy way to have an article with two separate translations on a webpage?
i.e. i have an article in one language, and i can click a button to change the text to another (prewritten) translation.
Hey #fedihire universe , like to work with a freelancer passionate about:
- #Django, doing it since 2007
- #JavaScript (preferably vanilla) since 1999
- and I love to speed up and optimize #databases, for speed, space, etc.
- fast, speedy, slim and very usable #websites (MPA but with SPA feel)
So I am backend and frontend experienced and love to help.
#Impact #startups preferred.

A simple development question for those experienced with building static websites from generative tools. Given these 3 major options to select from, do you have a preference?
Needs to be robust, flexible, as bulletproof as possible, secure, and can be easily maintained.
If you have any 'gotchas' or #infosec worries that you can pass on, please do post a comment.
PLEASE boost for maximum reach.
today is officially *THREE* weeks until the submission deadline for Good Internet magazine!
Good Internet launches in May 2025. it's a volunteer-run, not-for-profit print and digital quarterly magazine for personal website owners and those interested in using the internet as a means of self-expression, art, and recreation.
we're looking for 1,500-4,000 word articles about anything related to that!
you could write about:
* #internet history
* personal #websites
* #accessibility on the #indieweb
* finding inspiration for a #blog
* #webdesign trends
* running from the #enshittification of the #web
* lessons or post-mortems from #webdev projects
* news or overviews of #opensource projects
if it relates to hobbies on "this side of the web," whether you call it the #smallweb or indieweb, we probably want to run it!
you can have your article as low-media (meaning only text and images) or interactive, where you code an entire webpage to help tell your story.
if you're interested in learning more, you can sign up for our email list for when we launch or you can check the submission guidelines @ https://goodinternetmagazine.com!
(please boost if you can! <3)
Polish poster art is very good. #websites
boosting this to remind folks that the deadline for this is march 15, just shy of a month!
if you like #writing about the #internet, #enshittification, taking back our digital power by creating #websites, #blogs or #blogging (in the meta way!), and/or #coding and #webdev, please consider writing or coding for GOOD INTERNET magazine:
As previous post I’m in the last few days of moving about 60 #websites to a new server. Today was meant to be the last day, moving the main domain over. It went utterly tits up.
Set up the main domain and its subs on the new server, move all files over, then updated the DNS. 10mins later the server hit max load with swap file at 99.8%!
Hours trying to work out the issue found nothing, eventually reverted all DNS. Tomorrow I’ll start changing DNS entries one at a time.
The caller emailed as the voicemail said she would, and the email is MUCH more sales pitch. "Our monitoring system flagged malware and/or vulnerabilities... this can result in serious risks like... we specialize in identifying and resolving..."
LOL, no.
Any suggestions for non-scammy webhosts, especially not in the US? I currently use self-hosted WordPress for my site, but have considered alternatives.
Oh for heaven sake
Does anyone know of a website that is free or a low fee for posting a
Room for Rent for myself?
Please let me know. Thanks

As the #OrangeHitler Administration orders gov't #websites to "#scrub 27 #BannedWords" from all websites...
...I'd like to remind everyone that the job of "Winston Smith" in the novel "1984" was to remove words from the English #language.
The People were told it was to "streamline" language, but in fact, it was a means of CONTROL, b/c when people lack the words to express themselves, they are easier to control. #Fascism #FascistInChief
Russia anyone? A coalition of #news organizations said in a #court filing that video exhibits from a #Jan6 #riot case had "disappeared" from a government platform #DOJ that provided access to evidence used in court. "It is unclear whether the Department of Justice intentionally removed the files." https://www.npr.org/2025/02/11/nx-s1-5293447/jan-6-evidence-captiol-riot-donald-trump #disappearing #data #government #websites #politics #maga #trump #riots #CapitolRiots #legalresearch #censorship #freedomofinformation

"There is a hidden value in blogging. There’s an old Zen saying: “Chop wood, carry water.” You do it not for the applause but because it needs doing."
"Octothorpes are hashtags and backlinks that can be used on regular websites, connecting pages across the open internet, regardless of where they're hosted. A page that's tagged or hashtagged will show you the pages on a single domain with the same tag, but a page that's octothorped will show you the pages with the same tag across an unlimited number of domains."#Octothorpes #SearchEngines #WebSites
Question for free website maintainers: how long would you wait before deleting new accounts that hadn't been logged into since the day they were created and showed no other engagement with your site?
I'm feeling like it would be cool to make a website that can act as a bit of a portfolio and host my printable zines and maybe some tutorials.
I'm thinking I might start with Neocities, but if I stick with this idea I'm interested in learning how to self host and if anyone wants to share resources on how to do that for beginners I would love to hear about that!

So, as some of y'all know, I have a couple beefy #servers kicking around. I want to put them to good use.
I have a #resistance project in mind for one box - a massive archive for #science, #websites, #software, #art and whatever else is under immediate threat, as well as a #poisonWell for #ai. I'm already mirroring #wikipedia and hosting some other #data repos. I'm looking into #ArchiveTeamWarrior (https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/ArchiveTeam_Warrior).
I have 56 cores. I have 144GB of RAM. I have a 1.5GB fibre link -all I need is storage.
If you can spare it, please consider donating to my hard drive fund, for 2x 12TB SAS drives within #canada. Alternatively, if you have some mass storage devices (>8TB) you could #donate, get in contact!
This is a crucial time for the #internet. It's up to people like us to preserve and maintain what too many of us take for granted.
