“_Not only did viking helmets not have horns, the Norse people who sailed about the northern world were more likely to be peaceful merchants and traders than plundering raiders and pirates. Viking was an occupation, and an occasional gig at that, not an ethnic identity._”

Wordorigins.org Newsletter · vikingWe all have a solid idea of what a viking was, one of a band of a horned-helmeted, Old Norse warriors who ravaged northern Europe in the medieval period. And that idea is wrong. Not only did viking helmets not have horns, the Norse people who sailed about the northern

Another #wtfMicrosoft moment, as I just fruitlessly spent a good 30 minutes trying to create a #Microsoft #Word .docx document from a non-default .dotx template in the web version of Word.

Apparently this can't be done without using the Desktop version, which isn't going to help me on my Linux machine:

Also tried editing the template directly, but the online version won't do that either:

answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ms

What a load of useless, time wasting crap!

Thanks for the lengthy unsolicited lecture, random stranger. I'm sure it was very informative. Unfortunately, because #every #other #word was a hashtag for some reason, it read as if it were words cut out of magazine headlines for a ransom note, and I couldn't really derive much meaning from it.

Aha. They've made some regions of the documented restricted. So #Word is helpfully highlighting the editable areas that I can edit in a color that hides the text.

You can disable highlighting by going to "the Developer tab and..."

Needless to say, there's no Developer tab.

#Microsoft, you...I just can't find words to describe how much I hate you.

I was sent an unusable #word document and once again...I truly loathe #microsoft

I'm using Dark Mode. The document has colors that are unreadable.

They aren't text color/highlights

They aren't paragraph color/highlights

They aren't table color/highlights

They aren't style color/highlights

WHERE ARE THE COLORS COMING FROM

WHY CAN"T YOU JUST FUCKING SHOW ME THE FORMATTING

#English #language question: I am looking for a striking and catchy #word for an 'on many levels failed state'.
In school, we learned "banana republic" but this comes from colonial thinking and the state is not quite a republic.
Puns are also welcome if you explain them to me (English is a foreign language for me).
And because I like languages: you can also write me words from different languages.
