My mother was born on the farm in a small Mennonite community on Vancouver Island. She grew up mostly in the years after WW2, raising her kids in the 1960s-80s. In her 40s she got her Grade 12, then went to college in Kamloops where she was a nurse into her 70s. She started writing her memoir decades ago, publishing it earlier this year just before she turned 88. She’s a remarkable woman. I’m proud of her. You can read her story here…

Good day!

It dropped to 45F (7.2C) last night. I snuggled with Evie Cat beneath blankets & didn’t want to get up.

Yesterday, it rained all day, which is unusual here.

We’re going to return to seasonal soon, but it was sure a nice break from summer temps.

‪I've reached 45k words (más o menos) on the WIP. And as has been routine with all of my books at this stage, I've brought my my writing to a screeching halt so I can attempt to figure out just what the hell's going on with my story. Because pantsters gotta panster.

I hiked yesterday.

I learned that autumn is whispering, but it’s silent in town, you have to venture into the mountains.

I also learned, yet again, not to trust the weather forecast. Cloudy with drizzle? More like unrelenting sun.

Once home, it rained.

Our weather change came late yesterday with fanfare in the form of thunderstorms & heavy rain (for here).

It also brought cooler temperatures. The air coming through the windows is chilly.

I’m weighing my desire to hike against the unstable weather.

This is our last day of relatively hot weather for at a short time. Our chance of rain increasing from zero to slight.

I’ve decided to patent our weather this year & sell it. I can’t remember when we were last spared a heat dome.

It’s as if, after an unusually warm winter & spring, a switch flipped & we leaped from May to August.

Apparently, anything goes now. Kinda scary.

We seem to be settling into a seasonal weather pattern, which is far better than the epic heat we’ve suffered the last few years.

I don’t fear August heat here like I do July heat. The days are shorter. It takes until afternoon to heat up.
