(I'm even migrating my first toot from the other instance over to here:)
It feels too daunting to come up with my first toot. No one seems to be condemning #vocalfry over here in the fediverse, which is why I joined the birdsite back in the day I'm a #phonetician #linguist #cognitivescientist, currently studying the #phonetics of #ʻŌleloHawaiʻi (#Hawaiian)
I moved to lingo.lol because the server I originally joined only allowed toots in English or in a language translatable by DeepL. I understand the reasoning (they want to be able to moderate) but I can imagine a day when I want to toot in another language, and I definitely want to interact with people tooting in other languages!
Hola tothom!
Aloha kākou!
This is great to know! Also, thank you @lisa_b_davidson for sharing this because I now know what a toot is.
@lisa_b_davidson I'm here for the same reason!
@lisa_b_davidson Yes, all languages are generally allowed on this instance. I do see that it makes my job as moderator harder, but in this of all communities we should be able to find someone to translate any disputed messages.
That being said, I am very happy that the general conversation here has been in English so far. For my part, I am a native speaker of Danish, and I have studied a lot of Germanic languages. So I will have to rely on translations for anything else.
@headword I'm hoping for your sake (& all of our sakes) that the instance stays small enough that spammers and malicious actors don't bother with it!
@lisa_b_davidson yay! Oceanic linguistics!
