There has been a lot of discussion of the term in linguistics of late. But what about the terms or (or fluent vs. proficient)? @savithry and coauthors write about this a little w.r.t. language revitalization (citing Davis 2018), which is what I've been thinking about too. If anyone wants to have a mini-discussion of this issue, I'd love to hear it!

I don't have anything useful to say about fluent/proficient yet - I'm waiting till I can talk to my kids about it, but regarding the term Native Speaker, I do wonder about definitions.
I'm Scottish, my ex-wife is Polish, and my kids live with her in Czechia. The boys can speak Czech, Polish and English fluently, although they don't get enough practice in that last.
So, are they of all 3 languages? I don't know.
