Sea surface temperatures around Alaska are increasingly cooler than the 1991-2020 baseline. North of the Bering Strait, later than normal sea ice melt the primary driver. Over the northern Gulf of Alaska, clouds and cooler airmass limiting seasonal warming. Bristol Bay and the western Bering Sea remain warm. Data courtesy NOAA/PSL/ESRL. @Climatologist49 @ZLabe

High temperatures (ºF) in and around Alaska on Friday. Very warm on the North Slope and Interior with the first 80F temperature in Alaska (usually that happens in May). Very cool over extreme northwest BC and northernmost Southeast Alaska. #akwx #weather

High temperatures (ºF) in and around Alaska on Wednesday. Many areas except the west and northwest coast this was the warmest day of the year thus far, though except for some North Slope coastal areas not at all unusual for mid-June. #akwx #weather

Fairbanks finally reaches 70F. At 3pm AKDT the temperature at the Fairbanks Airport was 70F (21.1C). This is the first occurrence of a temperature of 70F or higher this year, almost four weeks later than the average date of the first 70F during the past 50 years. This is the latest "first 70" in modern era and the second latest on record: in 1911 the "first 70" was reported on June 12. #akwx #Climate @anisian @Climatologist49
