Sea surface temperatures around Alaska are increasingly cooler than the 1991-2020 baseline. North of the Bering Strait, later than normal sea ice melt the primary driver. The high temperature so far this year at Juneau Airport is 63F (17.2C). This is lowest max temperature through June 13 for any year on record (since 1941). The previous lowest was 64F (17.8C) in 2012. The typical highest temperature over the past 50 years to June 13 is 75F. #akwx #Climate @Climatologist49

Both Anchorage and Fairbanks Thursday morning in the zone for high level smoke haze the originated from wildfire in central Canada. Fairbanks finally reaches 70F. At 3pm AKDT the temperature at the Fairbanks Airport was 70F (21.1C). This is the first occurrence of a temperature of 70F or higher this year, almost four weeks later than the average date of the first 70F during the past 50 years. This is the latest "first 70" in modern era and the second latest on record: in 1911 the "first 70" was reported on June 12. #akwx #Climate @anisian @Climatologist49
