What can world learn from #JimmyCarter?
"Be decent. Be respectful. Try to bring out the best in your communities.
Don’t go on Twitter and fire off tweets. Don’t insult your opponents. Don’t try to overturn elections"

While staking out the current Georgia Governor, the vote-suppressing racist Brian Kemp at his office, I walked by the official portraits of the State's governors. Only one, James Earl Carter, refused to have his photo taken with his own state flag visible because it included the Confederate flag's stars and bars. That took courage. That took integrity. Alav ha-shalom, President Carter.
A great president, a remarkable man. We have his signed portrait in our home, given to my father when Carter visited West Berlin as President and my father was involved in managing his visit for the West Berlin government. I will explain it to my 12yo daughters, and I will tell them about his simple heroism in the reactor incident.
I will also show them the moving message he wrote for the Voyager spacecraft in 1977 (link).

His last goodbye
Jimmy Carter has left for another plane. To honor the man, his legacy, and his memory, I'm posting the essay I wrote for his 100th birthday, 'Dear and Glorious Centurion'

Thank you, President Carter, for a lifetime of service to our communities. How simple it is to be an agent for good in the world, and yet how few have the grace to achieve such simplicity.
Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free
Rest in Peace
