Marxists need to abandon Leninism. The oppressive and totalitarian one-party dictatorships that Leninism has produced should be enough to convince Marxists to try something else.

Lenin and the Bolsheviks didn't come to power through the popular democratic vote by the Russian populace. They came to power through forceful insurrection and suppressed all oppositional groups to maintain their power. Of course, there were people who supported the Bolsheviks, but many Russians were either opposed to them, undecided, or uninformed about the Bolsheviks’ intentions and methods.
Lenin was, indeed, a dictator.
The Youtuber "Socialism For All" just told me that Vanguardism is inherent to Marxism and that any Marxist who doesn't believe in it is a revisionist.
Do you also think that's a stupidly ridiculous thing to say?
I wasted several of my hours debating with a Leninist about why Leninism has failed, and it turned into a conversation about whether Lenin was a revisionist or not, and after a while I just decided to exit the conversation because there's literally nothing to debate. Leninism failed. Leninist states were horribly oppressive to the workers it claimed to liberate. Those aren't debatable topics; they're historical facts.

We should move past Marxism-Leninism, but not #communism completely. It's not fair to abandon every single communist ideology (many of which, like Classical #Marxism and Council Communism, actually promote democratic popular control and decision-making, unlike #Leninism) just because one proved itself to be terrible.

If Marxist-Leninist states were ideologically strong enough to handle criticism, they wouldn't have to ban any opposition to their states. If your entire state would crumble just from people being allowed to openly criticize and protest against it, then your state is too weak and fragile to exist, and it certainly isn't a state of the people.

I feel as though if the actual orthodox Marxists (called Mensheviks, which means minority) were successful over the Leninists (Bolsheviks, meaning majority), things would be a lot better.
