This episode taught me a lesson. I used to go to meetings for a club, and one of the members was a deaf woman whose husband signed and interpreted for her. Whenever I was speaking, I would speak looking at her instead of her husband. A lesson learned from this episode, and I suspect many people accidentally make the error of not doing that.

Later she commented that she thought I was very polite because I looked at her when I spoke.
