My humble offerings for #MusicWomenWednesday crossing streams with #motherlanguageday
Vida triste, Nynke Laverman, #Frisian fado (statistically most of you will understand that as well as #português )
She's a great #storyteller in her later songs too. Great listen
I am pleased to share that this February 21 I will be speaking at Anne Arundel Community College (Baltimore, MD) on how to promote Language Justice in the curriculum. One of my students will also be participating to talk about empowering communities to speak their own language. #LanguageJustice #MotherLanguageDay @academicchatter

Happy #MotherLanguageDay! In celebration, I offer you my favorite Polish tongue twister: Pocztmistrz z Tczewa (the postmaster from Tczew).
I was invited to a Bangladeshi commemoration for the student uprising in 1952 which cost the lives of two martyrs to the language movement. The protest was in response to the Pakistani government (independence gained in 1971) banning Bangla language by mandating Urdu. It felt really momentous because the Pakistani student society put flowers at the memorial and this is apparently unheard of due to the stance of the Pakistani gov on the issue. Very special.
Today is U.N. International #MotherLanguageDay, so I spent some time talking to #Indigenous language speakers as well as newcomers who’ve made their home in Canada. Take a listen to the full show here: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-89-crosstalk/clip/15967627-mother-language-day
Today at the institute we celebrate UNESCO International #MotherLanguageDay! We asked our staff about the languages they learned as a child at home.
Today is international #MotherLanguageDay – initiated by the UN to promote, preserve & protect the languages of our world. It is our turn, now, to thank the volunteers that translate our app & documentation in so many languages!
Being able to support so many languages is not only cool, it's an important part of making tech accessible.
