The so-called Grande Tempio in Luni. Luni is one of the Latin colonies and it was founded with 2,000 free men in 177 BC by Publius Aelius, Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, and Gnaeus Sicinius. It was a military stronghold for the campaigns against the Ligures. The temple had a Republican and an Imperial phase and it was abandoned in the fourth century AD. #RomanSiteSaturday

For #RomanSiteSaturday let's go to a huge pile of #trash - Monte Testaccio in #Rome. A huge artificial hill located next to the Tiber River. It was made up of millions of broken amphorae (mostly oil amphorae from southern Spain) during the first three centuries AD.

For #RomanSiteSaturday: the Corinth Channel or the Emperor #Nero's attempt to cut through the Isthmus. The relief on the photo depicts a figure standing beneath a pediment with its left arm resting on an object and right arm folded.
Archaeological interpretations of the relief suggest either a direct representation of Emperor Nero or Hercules resting after his labors. me

#RomanSiteSaturday! In 2003, the late #Roman fort CONSTANTIA was discovered next to the Cathedral in Konstanz. Archaeologists had suspected it for a long time, but until then there had been no proof. The fort was built around 300 AD and abandoned around 400 AD

For #RomanSiteSaturday the bath house of the legionary fortress in Rottweil/Arae Flaviae - my hometown .
Unfortunately, these are the only visible remains of the fortress, that was used from ca. 75/80 AD to 85/95. The Legio XI Claudia Pia Fidelis had been stationed here. After the legion left, an auxiliary fort was built and the bath house continued to be used in a reduced form.
