"Tabletop gaming, which includes board games, card games, and role-playing games, has enjoyed a roughly two-decade renaissance brought on in part by crowdfunding. Nevertheless, much of the industry consists of individual creators, sole proprietors, small family businesses, and remote teams of creatives. The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) said Thursday that the impact of these tariffs will be nothing short of a disaster."

Fields of Fire, solo

I finally finished the extra, extra long Naktong defensive mission in the Korea campaign. I sort of chunked it out over a number of days doing an hour here and there. It was a complete disaster but I still managed to win and hold enough ground to continue the campaign. While it is a night attack, it isn't *that* dark at +2, so you're still going to eat losses. I lost a huge number of units, ending with just three commanders---my first sergeant, 2nd platoon HQ, and my CO HQ. And that was after losing my COHQ. So this mission is a real widowmaker over 12 turns.

It was a pretty harrowing game, I was pretty sure it was all going to collapse and, based on that first picture of how the end of the night looked, it almost did/was in the middle of doing so. It came out pretty close to historical, as this was an all-out final offensive by the NKPA to break the UN lines that won but at too high a cost to continue.

We'll see how the next mission goes, I'm starting with a company that is starting with I think 4 less platoons due to unreplaced losses.

Earthborne Rangers, 2 players

Taught someone who wanted to learn Earthborne Rangers, and we played a day. Pretty solid first impression, and the character creation has a nice balance between sufficient constraint not to overwhelm, but crunchy enough that the decisions matter. It also bakes in a lot of combinations you can find to feel smart.

Anyway, it's a pretty tough teach if you haven't played something like Arkham LCG. I also think the first three days before the story starts are a good idea in theory, but since you're puttering around in somewhat tame environs, it makes the first couple days WAY too long. They won't be quite as long later when the challenges are stiffer so playtime is much shorter later in your campaign.

#HobbyStreak day 1225

Played two higher level scenarios of #RangersOfShadowDeep with some mates. It was hilarious but boy the baddies' dice were on FIRE. The second scenario did not leave a single companion standing, and two of five rangers went down!

Edit: also, my mook Boris J got his leg busted, so with missing toes and a bad leg, he's now down 1½" of his original 6" movement. If you have a medieval wheelchair STL, HMU

Hubworld: Aidalon, 2 players

The Earthborne Games team did a fun little thing and released a free demo deck for their upcoming LCG, Hubworld Aidalon. Just pay shipping and they'll send you a physical deck, and they let a TTS module of it out into the wild as well. It's sort of a rebirth of netrunner, with many similar concepts but without a clear offense/defense player split.

It's a nice, tightly put together package. Really good game if competitive CCGs are your thing, especially ones with a lot of deception that aren't clear card fighting games. I was pretty impressed. That said, I don't know that I'll be getting the finished product when it goes up for crowd funding---I just don't have room in my life for a 1-2 times a year non-coop LCG. I play most of my competitive games online, without much room for a deck building game that would feature lots of thrust counter-thrust ideally against a regular opponent. It took about an hour, and was kinda slow on TTS because a lot of it involves revealing cards which can be a lengthier thing than it would be in person. The decisionmaking felt quite sharp and the economic considerations were extremely brutal.

One thing to call out in the game is that it looks *great.* It has a totally cohensive art style across all of the cards. It's sort of a late 1970s Legend of Galactic Heroes anime style crossed with Moebius style European cartoons of the era. Whomever is the art director is killing it---all of the card art pulled in exactly the same direction, which is a tough thing to pull off. By comparison, my Arkham LCG player card set came in and the difference was palpable---Arkham has art styles all over the place and struggles to create any sense of place.

Anyway, huge recommend that you try this one out if you're in the competitive LCG/CCG audience. Shipping was ~7 USD.
