#KevinCostner is a man on a horse.

“I’d like to see the frontier…before it’s gone.”

*montage of sweeping vistas ending with a man on a plateau overlooking a city being built”.

“Son, you’re too late. The national railroad’s almost finished, California is set to be a state next month.”

In a land of sorrow (*a caged Indian passes by on a wagon*)…
One man, loses hope.

Until…

“Someone’s gotta drive these cattle.”
“You’re crazy. No one’s done anything like this before.”
“You just got to believe”.

Paramount Pictures proudly presents the inspired true story of a dreamer who continued to look West….”

“We’re going to go through the city, to the beach, and we’re going to keep going…”

“A dreamer who drove the first head of cattle from Los Angeles…to Honolulu”

“We can’t turn back, we’re going to have to go through this typhoon!” “I knew I shoulda stayed in Missouri!”

Malone: "You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way!"

Sean Connery won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as Jim Malone.

I watched Kevin Costner's The Postman again last night. Years later, I have the same opinion: it's flawed but thought-provoking. I think there's a really interesting concept there (see Pratchett's much better Going Postal) , and there's quite a bit to like, particularly Olivia Williams's character, but it takes way too long and focuses too much on the heroic mythical figure rather than . . . y'know, the amazing practical and emotional potential for a public service.
