The "Gospel of James" is a very early Christian fanfic (2nd century). It's the main source of the legend that Jesus's mother was a perpetual virgin - there's no basis for that in the Bible.

Anyway, here's the fun bit:

Right after delivery, a skeptical midwife tries to examine the "virgin" Mary gynecologically. Her hands burn off. Then Mary forgives her, and an angel descends with a fresh pair of replacement hands!
