No quite #EnPleinAir (working from a photo as I started this one inside) but at least I am out in the fresh air. They're giving snow for next week so I'm making the most of it! Might count for my #SilentSunday too

I'm planning some #EnPleinAir #PaintingWithYarn and following the theme I thought a Derbyshire quarry might be a good subject. This is a #Millersdale Quarry (now a nature reserve) just off the #MonsalTrail I had a nosy around today as the morning light was good - some great shadows. A bit chilly to sit around today, but an option when the weather warms. NB #PhonePhotos so not brilliant!

Cochrane, Patagonia, Chile. It was a rainy, overcast day. But it was lovely.

I love working with watercolours. I’m still honing my skills, but I’m confident it’ll come with time and practice.

This piece captures the last rays of sunlight on Vlieland—ghostly figures emerging around the fire house. It was a race against the light, so I had to paint quickly!

For today's #ArtAdventCalendar, a very important little painting. This was painted #EnPleinAir, on the second day of a course in #PaletteKnife painting. The weather was closing in, and I had to paint fast to cover the canvas before the rain got to it. It's the best thing I did all week.

So I learnt that I have to work fast. By all means, look, think, try to be considered, but once the thinking is done, move fast.

For today's #ArtAdventCalendar, a fragment of a ruin in the park in Chester, painted #EnPleinAir. I didn't attempt to include the teenagers scrambling on it for some of the time I was there!

I got sworn at by a squirrel, and it began to drizzle. But the sundial is instantly recognisable to one who knows it, and not so long ago, I wouldn't even have attempted it, especially on a day when my washes weren't drying!

I took my #OilPastels for a walk today... (A very chilly walk!)

Here's some of what I was doing at #Sketchfest this last weekend. This is an event which is run in Woodbridge in Suffolk every year. There are demos and workshops, but for me, the free time to do more painting and sketching is almost as valuable. I try to work fast, make more mistakes more quickly, and move on. I can work slowly back home in the studio.

As you see, three quarter view is something else I have more work to do with!

You wouldn't think it would be possible, on such a hot day, for the paint to be drying too slowly. And indeed, at some points, it was dry before I wanted it to be so.

Watercolour is hard.

But fun, too!

Oh dear. Struggling to get the darks dark enough or any sense of the shapes. And everything seems to be drying even lighter on this paper than watercolour usually does!

Another contribution for #WorldWatercolourMonth. The paper is 300gsm Khadi, and it accepts water without cockling, which means it's hard to tell when a wash has dried. I'm not happy with it as it stands, so I may experiment with pen and ink later.
