@stefan I'm probably going to upset a lot of people with this statement, but I will side with anything that undermines copyright.
All copyright is evil. The very idea of the so-called "intellectual property" must be exterminated! Nothing will ever change my mind on this.

Ugh, is it just me or has conventional access to Library Genesis (several instances) been blocked in Germany? afaik shadow libraries have not been illegal per se in the past – is there any new legislation that I am not aware of that would justify this?

Unsurprisingly this is their response but it shouldn't be allowed. 
So many levels of government in Canada are hostile or obstructionist to FOI requests. Combine that with police impunity here.

Wonderful to hear Julian Assange is free.
I cannot claim to have been part of the campaign to free him for reasons I find difficult to articulate.
One thing I’d like to mention is that when I heard Noam Chomsky speaking about Julian’s achievements and the significance of what he has done for anyone who seeks truth and enlightenment - I realised fully what was driving him and how much he was willing to pay to do that service

Unnecessary to add, that President Ulysses Grant didn't want revanchist southern rebels to dictate & pervert the contents of library shelves or curricula of students.
