Raising Jobseeker to $80 per day—in line with the Raise the Rate campaign—and indexing it to keep up with wages would cost $9.5 billion per year.

This a fraction of the cost of superannuation tax concessions ($50 billion per year) or the Capital Gains Tax discount ($15 billion), both of which mainly benefit the richest Australians.

The Australia Institute · Jobseeker payments are too lowNo-one in Australia should have to live on $56 a day. The current Jobseeker payment is inadequate by every metric, and the majority of families that rely on it live below the poverty line.

Why we get upset with little lines like “They have aggressively increased pensions and benefits”: Aside from it not being true? Or that it was in an article lamenting that Labor and Albanese weren’t getting enough credit for helping people and the economy? #RaiseTheRate #NobodyDeservesPoverty @AmandaRishworth t.co/1LbHAVorlT pic.twitter.com/Cj6Ftt4Xv5 — Avery Howard (they/them) (@averyhowardau) April 28, 2023 I think… phonakins.com/2025/02/01/why-w #costofliving #welfare #centrelink @phonakins

The nerds are ANGRY on #auspol tonight.

Comrades...

...coulda used this kind of energy when we were pushing back against Labor's bullshit on housing, #RaisetheRate, the Indigenous referendum, kids in prison, counting queers, etc.

If you only show up when it's explicitly 'about' digital policy you don't get to wonder why nobody else appears to give a fuck about digital policy.

Righto all you tooters. It's time we started work on raising the pressure on the current government to care for the least advantaged in our country. The Stage 3 Tax Cuts are wrong, giving big boost to income of top earners, while taking more tax from the poorest.

Rate rate of all Social Security payments need to be increased to allow those recipients to at least to survive and maybe, just maybe start to thrive a little and see some hope.

So please, sign this letter to the government, ring the PM's office, ring your federal MP. Life as a bottom feeder is not real good.
