My 10 year old has had an Android phone with a data only sim for several years to allow his Continuous Glucose Monitor to send his #t1d data to our phones and alert us when he is high or low.

It has worked well, and the lack of an actual phone number means he doesn't get spam calls or texts

But with his older brother getting an actual phone, I'm finding myself wanting a chat / video chat app I can put on his phone so we can chat as a family if needed

Signal still needs a phone number, and it doesn't feel great to validate off of a pay phone or a burner number.

I tried Delta Chat, and it worked great for chat, but since it uses email in the background it struggled with video chat, and had no voice call.

I guess I'll try Matrix next, but it looks so much like Discord, and my natural dislike of discord has delayed me trying it.

Any other options I should look at?

I'm not opposed to, and actually would prefer self hosting any server it needs.

Back from #Zakopane 🇵🇱 from the Annual Meeting of the Research Consortium on #T1D #Exome Studies in Central and Eastern #Europe. 🧬🔍 And no, you’re not the only one wondering what a psychologist was doing at a conference knee-deep in sequencing data and genetic variants. But science, like life, has a funny way of connecting people. A chance encounter years ago in Michigan led me here: a collaboration on the largest exome sequencing study for Type 1 #Diabetes in this part of the world! ✨ More info (hopefully) soon. 🤫 genes.uzhnu.edu.ua/ 🇺🇦

@julianlawson Well this is *incredible*. I had been immensely frustrated that I could only get to my BG reading in the night by unlocking my phone and opening the app. Because of something you accidentally captured in a photo yesterday I now have an API on my BG and a new little device for my bedside table

I've just ordered a Pi Zero to do this properly, this 3B was the best spare Pi I could find in The Drawer today

I will write this up and stick the code on Github if you're interested

Went down the self hosted home assistant rabbit hole tonight after receiving my Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition

So far running the speech to text and text to speech in separate docker containers and keeping all that voice data local

I don't have many IoT things for it to control, but I can say "Hey Nabu, what are my son's blood glucose numbers" and have it tell me the numbers and the trend which is really darn cool #t1d

I have started a new weekly newsletter that will be a bibliography of new research articles on the use of CGM data to improve outcomes for diabetics. The bibliography is compiled by a machine learning program developed by Thomas Kirchel, to which I provide manual abstract relevance feedback. You can subscribe to the newsletter free by signing up for the newsletter "bims-glumda CGM data in management of diabetes" at:

Attn: #T1D folks.

Have you any experience with #fiasp, particularly as used in an #insulin pump? How does it compare to #humalog or #novolog?

I take #novolog via my #tandem #tslim, but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to control my BG as my #gastroparesis grows more erratic over time. I’m wondering if a faster-acting insulin might help, allowing me to NOT bolus until I see a BG rise when my stupid stomach decides to start digesting (sometimes immediately, sometimes 4 hours later).
