I missed agriculture class at school so when I saw these beauties, I was fascinated. A person I was with said it is called tick berry and is poisonous to humans and animals, but not to birds, and the scifi writer in me imagined a war in which birds use this flower to eradicate pests (humans!) and save Earth.

These purple cornflowers remind me of Scottish Thistles without the spikes, especially when the bud is just about to flower. I guess it's just homesickness for Scotland acting up.
