Next week our ECR group are starting a #MachineLearning sprint to speed up the development of our new #IceSheet surface mass budget emulation models.

I'm looking for hints, ideas tips and inspiration to help smooth and accelerate the process.

If you're used to working in #Sprint mode, what in your opinion makes it work or otherwise hinders it?

What can I as supervisor do to make it run better?
And how should we celebrate it's conclusion?

Also, should me do an #AMA on the process?

#Scientists discover hidden 'plumbing' that's driving #Antarctic #icesheet into the #ocean
Maps created by combining different models of #glaciers and ice sheets reveal the way water is flowing deep beneath #Antarctica's ice. Understanding how these vary is important for accurately predicting how much ice will flow into the ocean, and how quickly it will move. Current models predict that ice melt from Antarctica could result in #sealevelrise up to 12in (30cm) by 2100.

#Greenland’s #glaciers are falling apart faster than expected
New 3D study shows meltwater driving fissures deeper into the glacial ice.
The study found that crevasses are expanding more quickly than previously detected, and somewhere between 50-90% of the water flowing through the Greenland Ice Sheet goes through crevasses, which can warm deeply submerged portions of the #glacier and increase lubrication between the base of the #icesheet and the bedrock it flows over.

As it happens, I'm at Aarhus University today at the Danish Greenland ice sheet seminar, an annual event that goes round different institutes working on the #Greenland #IceSheet in Denmark. If one of these PhDs takes your fancy maybe you'll join us next year?

In case your career ambitions extend to a PhD in DEnmark, Aarhus University have some really exciting positions open right now, everything from ancient human migrations to atmospheric physics. PhD students in Denmark are employees, and we are always looking for good candidates so it's a great place to study!
Not all are in #Aarhus, some are near Roskilde, just outside #Copenhagen
