If my research is correct, then this is probably what we call "sílamáfur" in Icelandic or "lesser black-backed gull". ("Lesser"? How rude.) They like insects, which is probably what this one was out looking for this far inland near Hveragerði. #birds #gulls #iceland #nature

J'hésite entre un Troglodyte Mignon et un Pipit Farlouse. Aperçu le week-end dernier dans le très vieux cimetière de la petite église d'Akrar au nord-ouest de Borgarnes (route 540).

Un petit oiseau est posé sur une pierre tombale vieille de plus d'un siècle. Il regarde vers la droite. Au fond, l'océan dont la couleur foncée tranche avec celle du ciel.

Le même oiseau qui a pris son envol. Il est pile au-dessus d'une croix en bois sous laquelle repose une femme née en 1900 et décédée 87 années plus tard.

About the time I stopped posting last night, the UK Eurovision entry for 2025, Remember Monday, released a cover of Husavik - My Hometown:

The Eurovision contestants from the UK did a cover of a song from the movie Eurovision about Husavik, a town in Iceland. They went to the town and, apparently, the locals made them this video. I'm glad they didn't choose to cover Ja Ja Ding Dong instead.

Summer Wildflowers

August, and the grassland on the banks of Steingrímsfjörður¹ is lush and green, peppered with small white, purple and yellow flowers.
Further along the bank of the fjord is a group of buildings, some with colourful roofs and some spread along the more distant quayside.
