@Axomamma this reminds me of the legendary “Macs don’t get viruses” marketing campaign by #apple (youtu.be/sdF5IsyOxU4). I think it’s a great idea for a marketing campaign for #blackberry but not great #security advice. I would classify this as security through obscurity which is not a good strategy.
For example, if enough people switch to blackberry then companies like #cellebrite would likely start developing tools to access blackberries. Also given there are less people using these device and therefore probably less people scrutinising them, their security practices may not be at the same level as major vendors. So what that means is that maybe cellebrite can figure out how to get access to the device in a much shorter time than it would take to compromise the lastest #iphone and worse yet they may be able to exploit a #vulnerability that affects all blackberry devices and OS versions

Amnesty International Security Lab revealed how the Serbian authorities have been using Cellebrite to break into the smartphones of activists and journalists, followed by planting NoviSpy, a type of spyware that Amnesty attributes with a high degree of certainty to the Serbian secret services.

At this point I'm more concerned about Israeli hackers, not just in Telcos but in everything – apps, devices, PCs etc.! And of course, not just for data theft but for implants of code (/backdoors), functions and parts.
Obviously, if they can, they'll want to keep it quiet, but the bottom line throughout organized #ITpiracy is always, if they can, they will.

Niedersachsen hat Software von #Cellebrite angeschafft, um damit die Handys von ausreisepflichtigen Ausländer:innen zu durchsuchen. Das Innenministerium wollte uns lange nicht sagen, wie viel das kostet: Geschäftsgeheimnis.

Jetzt teilt die Landesaufnahmebehörde auf Druck doch noch die Kosten mit:

💶 rund 45.000 Euro für 2023
💶 rund 35.000 Euro für 2022
👉 fast 80.000 Euro für die vergangenen zwei Jahre

📲 Durchsucht wurden laut Ministerium in dieser Zeit 81 Geräte.

Ausländerbehörden dürfen die Geräte von Geduldeten durchsuchen. Das Hamburger Amt bekommt dabei Hilfe von Strafverfolgungsbehörden. Aber der Senat möchte nicht sagen, mit welchen Werkzeugen die arbeiten.

Das ist vor allem bemerkenswert, weil die Information längst öffentlich ist. Schon vor einem Jahr teilte das Amt @netzpolitik_feed mit, dass LKA und Hauptzollamt für das Knacken der Handys Produkte von #Cellebrite und #MSAB verwenden
