Cases of #dengue #fever have been surging globally as warmer weather brought on by climate change enables mosquitoes to expand their reach.

The Pan American Health Organization said #deaths from dengue are also rising.

More than 7,700 deaths have been reported in the Caribbean and the Americas so far in 2024,
a more than 200% increase,
compared to 2,467 deaths in 2023, according to the organization.

The number of cases in the region,
which includes the United States,
is the highest reported since record keeping began in 1980,
PAHO director Jarbas Barbosa said at a news conference.

“This is linked directly to climatic events,” he said, referencing warmer temperatures, droughts and flooding.

A fast population growth, unplanned urbanization and poor sanitation have contributed to the rise in dengue.

The virus has surged worldwide since last year and spread to areas previously free of dengue, according to PAHO.

I have been feeling awful the last few days. I visited urgent care today because I knew that my viral symptoms were morphing into secondary infections.

I have a #fever, but I tested negative for both #covid and the #flu. I have #infections in my ears, eyes, sinuses and chest. My body is achy and my throat is still very sore, even after 5 days. The doctor indicated that she has noticed multiple people with the same exact symptoms. Stay vigilant and mask up.

Keep an Indy handy if you have one.

My body decided it had enough and shut down, giving me the middle finger. It's nothing serious, this time, and it'll take a few days to recover. Perhaps some fun projects are on hold, but who knows. I've been inhabiting this body for so long to know I am weaker than the average and I need extra care, even if sometimes I forget that. And it's also difficult to convey my limits to others.

Luckily Angie came to rescue and is providing the cuddles I so much need. Along with paracetamol and binaural beats. From Tara's sofa, 73s for the night.
