#Immigration agents told a teenage #USCitizen: ‘You’ve got no rights.’ He secretly recorded his brutal arrest

Video from #KennyLaynezAmbrosio, 18, puts fresh scrutiny on the harsh tactics used to reach the #Trump administration’s ambitious enforcement targets

July 25, 2025

"On the morning of 2 May, teenager Kenny Laynez-Ambrosio was driving to his landscaping job in North Palm Beach with his mother and two male friends when they were pulled over by the #FloridaHighwayPatrol.

"In one swift moment, a traffic stop turned into a violent arrest.

"A highway patrol officer asked everyone in the van to identify themselves, then called for backup. Officers with US #BorderPatrol arrived on the scene.

"Video footage of the incident captured by Laynez-Ambrosio, an 18-year-old US citizen, appears to show a group of officers in tactical gear working together to violently detain the three men*, two of whom are undocumented. They appear to use a stun gun on one man, put another in a chokehold and can be heard telling Laynez-Ambrosio: 'You’ve got no rights here. You’re a migo, brother.' Afterward, agents can be heard bragging and making light of the arrests, calling the stun gun use 'funny' and quipping: 'You can smell that … $30,000 bonus.' "

#Georgia #Police Arrest #Farmworkers — Then Get Warrants From #DHS

Georgia authorities said their goal was to serve warrants for crimes against children. Instead, they swept people up and got immigration detainers after the fact.

Excerpt: "Georgia State Patrol and DHS did not respond to a request for comment.

" 'The people we’ve spoken with so far were randomly pulled over or profiled and just arrested on the spot, either for not having a driver’s license or for no charge at all,' said Meredyth Yoon, an attorney with Asian Americans Advancing Justice–Atlanta who has been investigating the May 12 operation. 'That’s not a targeted operation based on people having outstanding warrants.' "

#ICE Said They Were Being Flown to Louisiana. Their Flight Landed in Africa.

An Intercept investigation shows that immigration officials deceived the men now expelled to #SouthSudan.

Nick Turse
July 8 2025

"When eight men in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement boarded a plane in May, officials told them that they were being sent on a short trip from Texas to another ICE facility in Louisiana.

"Many hours later, the plane landed in Djibouti. The men were held in shipping containers for weeks, shackles on their legs. This past weekend, they were expelled to the violence-plagued nation of South Sudan.

"This deception, revealed by an Intercept investigation, highlights the lengths to which the U.S. government will go to further its anti-immigrant agenda and deport people to so-called third countries to which they have no connections.

"Lawyers for three of the men said that their clients were told, after resisting deportation to Africa, that they were instead being transferred to a detention facility in Louisiana. ICE then hustled them onto a plane, in the wee hours of the morning, and flew them out of the country without their knowledge or consent. This account was further corroborated by the wife of one of those same men who was told about ICE’s tactics in real time.

" 'This underscores just how abysmal and reprehensible the government’s treatment of these men has been from the very beginning, and the fact that the government made no genuine attempt to comply with the district court injunction in place prior to shipping them out of the United States,' said Glenda Aldana Madrid, a staff attorney at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project who is representing one of the men, Tuan Thanh Phan.

"Aldana Madrid added, 'Tuan and the other men had the right to know where they were going, and yet the government did not have the basic decency to do even that before putting them on a plane bound for a country none of them knew, and that is on the brink of civil war.'

"The Intercept sent numerous requests to ICE for comment. Spokesperson Miguel Alvarez acknowledged receipt of the questions but did not reply."

Heavily armed immigration agents descend on #MacArthurPark in #LosAngeles

By Melissa Gomez, Rachel Uranga, Brittny Mejia, Richard Winton and Ruben Vives
July 7, 2025 12:16 PM PT

"Dozens of immigration agents, some on horseback, others carrying rifles in armored vehicles, swept through MacArthur Park on Monday in an extraordinary show of force at the heart of Los Angeles’ #immigrant community.

"Heavily armored #BorderPatrol officers with a fleet of white minibuses partially blocked the streets surrounding the park, which has become a source of crime and drugs in the area in the last few years. #Activists with megaphones were able to warn locals at the park before the contingent arrived, according to police sources.

"The move comes days after President Trump signed a budget that will provide a mass infusion of funds to the Department of Homeland Security to ramp up its immigration enforcement to levels unseen before in the United States. Los Angeles has become the poster child of Trump’s mass deportation plan, as more than 1,600 people have been arrested between June 6 and 22.

"The agents appeared to arrive around 10:30 a.m. after amassing at nearby locations. Once they were at the park, they were met with crowds of people screaming 'get the f— out!' and 'get out!' #MayorKarenBass also showed up to the park, which sits just west of downtown Los Angeles. Activists, who have been on high alert for weeks, appeared to be prepared to deploy lawyers to the scene.

"At some point, Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim handed his cellphone to Bass. Speaking to the other person over the line she could be heard saying, 'You’re getting ready to leave? Can you leave ASAP?'

"Demonstrators began to chant, drowning out her conversation. When asked to comment, Bass said the federal immigration agents needed 'to leave and they need to leave right now, they need to leave because this is unacceptable.'

"When asked who she was talking to on the other end of the line she said it was 'the head of customs.'

"Bass handed the phone back to a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Shortly afterward, she boarded a black SUV and left the area.

"It’s unclear if anyone was arrested during the sweep.

" 'This was just one big, perverse publicity stunt,' said #RonGochez, a member of #UniónDelBarrio, an independent political organization advocating for immigrant rights and social justice. 'It was just to show force, it was just to take pictures.'

"The chaos on #WilshireBoulevard around MacArthur Park had mostly calmed by 11:30 a.m., though a few protesters and members of the news media lingered afterward.

"Mikema Nahmir, 28, said he was out for his morning walk at 11 a.m. when he saw two women running down the street yelling that '#LaMigra' was at MacArthur Park.

"Nahmir joined the group of #protesters who chased and yelled after the #military-style trucks. At one point, he said, someone from the truck shot out an #irritant toward him and another protester.

" 'L.A. is ours, this is our city,' Nahmir said. 'This is what my morning walk turned into. They’re terrorizing our neighborhood.'

"Live video from the scene Monday morning broadcast on social media showed a line of white vans that have been used to transport arrestees as well as several agents on horseback. Agents cleared the scene by 11:20 a.m. and it was not immediately clear how many people they had taken into custody.

"U.S. Border Patrol Sector Chief Greg Bovino, who has been leading the operations on the ground in Los Angeles, was present during the operation.

"Bovino, who is based near the U.S.-Mexico border along with others in the Trump administration, was sued last week by immigrant rights groups seeking to block what it calls an 'ongoing pattern and practice of flouting the #Constitution and federal law' during immigration raids. They say raids have targeted individuals based on race, lack #DueProcess and some practices are akin to #kidnapping rather than legal enforcement. A hearing is set for later this week in federal court.

"Asked for comment on whether any arrests had been made, a senior DHS official, said, 'We don’t comment on ongoing enforcement operations.' "

Los Angeles Times · Heavily armed immigration agents descend on L.A.'s MacArthur ParkBy Melissa Gomez

The Big Ugly Bill is likely to pass, as House Republicans have fallen in line. Nothing good in the bill, all bad. One of the bad things is the huge increase in funding for ICE. Kidnapping and imprisonment of political opponents (ie, outspoken Democrats) is in our future.

#NativeAmerican leaders blast construction of #Florida’s ‘#AlligatorAlcatraz’ on land they call sacred

By KATE PAYNE
Updated 5:57 PM EDT, June 26, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — "Florida Republican Gov. #RonDeSantis’ administration is racing ahead with construction of a makeshift immigration detention facility at an airstrip in the Everglades over the opposition of Native American leaders who consider the area their sacred #AncestralHomelands.

"A string of portable generators and dump trucks loaded with fill dirt streamed into the site on Thursday, according to #activist Jessica Namath, who witnessed the activity. The state is plowing ahead with building a compound of heavy-duty tents, trailers and other temporary buildings at the Miami Dade County-owned airfield located in the #BigCypressNationalPreserve, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) west of downtown Miami.

"A spokesperson for the Florida Division of Emergency Management, which is helping lead the project, did not respond to requests for comment.

"State officials have characterized the site as an ideal place to hold #migrants saying there’s 'not much' there other than pythons and alligators.

"#Indigenous leaders dispute that and are condemning the state’s plans to build what’s been dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz' on their homelands. #NativeAmericans can trace their roots to the area back thousands of years.

"For generations, the sweeping wetlands of what is now South Florida have been home to Native peoples who today make up the #MiccosukeeTribe of Indians of Florida and the #SeminoleTribe of Florida, as well as the #SeminoleNation of Oklahoma.

" 'Rather than Miccosukee homelands being an uninhabited wasteland for alligators and pythons, as some have suggested, the Big Cypress is the Tribe’s traditional homelands. The landscape has protected the #Miccosukee and Seminole people for generations,' Miccosukee Chairman Talbert Cypress wrote in a statement on social media.

"There are 15 remaining traditional Miccosukee and #Seminole villages in Big Cypress, as well as ceremonial and burial grounds and other gathering sites, Cypress testified before Congress in 2024.

" 'We live here. Our ancestors fought and died here. They are buried here,' he said.
The Big Cypress is part of us, and we are a part of it.'

"Garrett Stuart, who lives about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from the site, described the crystal clear waters, open prairies and lush tree islands of Big Cypress as teeming with life.

" 'Hearing the arguments of the frogs in the water, you know? And listen to the grunt of the alligator. You’re hearing the call of that osprey flying by and listening to the crows chatting,' he said. 'It’s all just incredible.'

"Critics have condemned the #detention facility and what they call the state’s apparent reliance on alligators as a security measure as a cruel spectacle, while DeSantis and other state officials have defended it as part of Florida’s muscular efforts to carry out President Donald Trump’s #ImmigrationCrackdown.

WTF! After decades in the US, #Iranians arrested in #Trump’s deportation drive

By KIM CHANDLER, CLAIRE RUSH and ELLIOT SPAGAT
Updated 11:59 PM EDT, June 28, 2025

"Mandonna 'Donna' Kashanian lived in the United States for 47 years, married a U.S. citizen and raised their daughter. She was gardening in the yard of her New Orleans home when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers handcuffed and took her away, her family said.

"Kashanian arrived in 1978 on a student visa and applied for asylum, fearing retaliation for her father’s support of the U.S.-backed shah. She lost her bid, but she was allowed to remain with her husband and child if she checked in regularly with immigration officials, her husband and daughter said. She complied, once checking in from South Carolina during #HurricaneKatrina. She is now being held at an immigration #DetentionCenter in #BasileLouisiana, while her family tries to get information.

"Other Iranians are also getting arrested by immigration authorities after decades in the United States. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security won’t say how many people they’ve arrested, but U.S. military strikes on Iran have fueled fears that there is more to come.

" 'Some level of vigilance, of course, makes sense, but what it seems like ICE has done is basically give out an order to round up as many Iranians as you can, whether or not they’re linked to any threat and then arrest them and deport them, which is very concerning,' said Ryan Costello, policy director of the National Iranian American Council, an advocacy group.

"#HomelandSecurity did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment on Kashanian’s case but have been touting arrests of Iranians. The department announced the arrests of at least 11 Iranians on immigration violations during the weekend of the U.S. missile strikes. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said, without elaborating, that it arrested seven Iranians at a Los Angeles-area address that 'has been repeatedly used to harbor illegal entrants linked to #terrorism.' "
