@jalefkowit NYPD thought they were getting some unexpected overtime pay with bonuses for wearing tactical gear.

NYPD thought they'd show the ruling class that, while they are useless at protecting the wealthy, they will do a good job of punishing those who get caught killing them.

If NYPD thought this spectacle would make them look tough, they were very wrong. NYPD are the choads that shoot 3 people over a subway fare.

#JuryNullification is when the jury in a criminal trial gives a verdict of not guilty even though they think a defendant has broken the law.

A hung jury is a jury that is unable to reach a unanimous verdict after extended deliberation, resulting in a new trial and potentially damaging the case.

Both are legal in the US, but if you announce your intent to implement one of these outcomes during jury selection you will be rejected from serving on the jury. Spread the word.

@jstogdill @Lana @edgeofeurope @deirdrebeth @Myerman

the question here is not why we aren't shocked by such violence

the real question is why is anyone shocked by such violence

why do you think we can have this healthcare system that does what it does, and you think a violent response will never come, and that people won't instantly understand sympathize and celebrate the shooter?

#luigimangione may go to prison

he also may not due to #jurynullification

and if he doesn't

do not be shocked

@alissaazar @CedarTea a form of jury nullification saved my mama from prison, or even death, for something she absolutely did. Given a choice of 3 levels of guilty because 'the facts of the case were not in dispute,' they instead acquited her and she came home to us that very day.
She was a complicated woman but i am so very glad we 6 (later 7) siblings got to stay together and still look out for each other to this day.
Thanks, jury willing to just say,
"Nah, they've suffered enough. "
#JuryNullification is our ONLY recourse sometimes
