The rule of thumb provides clear criteria for the minimum provision of urban trees in our urban communities:
- 3 trees from every home
- 30 percent tree canopy cover in every neighbourhood
- 300 metres from the nearest public park or green space

Look who woke us up this morning!! Mr Swan was certain his reflection was a rival so had been madly pecking the glass. A new early morning alarm call perhaps?! We are living a mile from a busy city so pretty happy about this!!
1. I'm glad I'm not the only person that noticed this UK trend of replacing their garden with fake grass.
2. I find it shocking that we have to resort to giving people tax breaks to stop doing something very bad.
"Cities may have lost as much as 50% of their green garden space over the past two decades as paving over gardens and using plastic grass has become a trend in recent years"

#ElizabethStreet in #Melbourne’s central business district is home to this gorgeous building.
It’s called the ‘lighthouse’, and it’s one of my favourites.
It was built relatively recently, completed in 2017 and stands 218 m / 715 ft tall and has 69 levels.
It’s the 18th tallest building in Melbs.
The rich purple is what attracts me.
And the building‘s colour and appearance evolves dramatically depending on the time of day and of course, weather, sunshine etc.
The building itself is known for its appearance as a twisting helix (not so obvious from my distant pics), that has no corners.
I like!

On the other end of the spectrum, there's all these sincere, impassioned #Environmentalists who cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would not want to embrace #UrbanLiving - they know not the #TrueBeautyOfNature they believe they're trying to protect.
The top of #queenstreet #melbourne is a delight on a sunny day!
The buildings are awesome and I love the colours the architects have chosen at the time of planning to reflect the cosmopolitan nature of the city.
It’s the final day of #Moomba today, which is one long-weekend of the year that celebrates this gorgeous city with street processions and river sports such as skiing and attracts thousands to the city surrounds.
This vantage point is right near the #queenvictoriamarket.
Shots of buildings located in the heart of #Melbourne’s #Southbank precinct.
Its southern area is considered part of the central business district of the city. Southbank is bordered to the north by the #Yarra River, and was formerly an industrial area.
It was transformed into a densely populated district of high rise apartments and office buildings beginning in the early 1990s.
Southbank now houses over 22,000 residents and there are theatres, clubs, restaurants and designer shops throughout and in and around the #CrownCasino complex.
The riverside promenades feature al fresco fine dining and cargo sheds housing craft-beer bars.
It’s definitely a hub of action and fun.
One of my fave places in Melbs!
Not all new architecture is boring and drab.
This 200 metre long walkway that adjoins #chadstoneshoppingcentre to #hotelchadstone is nothing but a visual hedonist’s delight.
Location: #eastmulvern #chadstone, #Australia.
I love the beams that bend to meet at the top of the ceiling and the repetitive layers of this structure as you look from one end to the other.
Was definitely worth snapping and sharing.
70 Southbank Boulevard, #Southbank is a sight to behold.
It’s one of my favourite modern buildings standing proud in #melbourne #Australia
The reason why? The lower residential balcony #flora displays!
Mesh protects against falling debris and birds (I’m assuming) but the sheer display of modern-living and natures gifts is just lovely.
These are three modern buildings located in #collingwood #Australia.
The significance of these for me is that each incorporates the new architectural designs to the old; pre-existing structures that stood prior (or to those that stand in close proximity).
The contrast is often visually effective.
It’s a great metaphor for life, too. And can be applied to anything #newandold particularly people, and our various generations within our communities.
We can coexist in harmony… and even complement each other to make this a better world.
The old #caulfieldcityrifleclub building is located in #elsternwick #Australia.
This Rifle Club was formed in 1915 when they established a range on the Racecourse Public Recreation Reserve (now #CaulfieldRacecourse).
The Club was dissolved in about 2000 and I believe this building now sits empty.
Putting aside the sentiment of the early-day hobby (not a fan of guns), it’s a gorgeous old-age structure.

I love this new #melbourne #Australia skyscraper, it’s delightful.
‘Australia 108’ is a residential supertall skyscraper located in the #Southbank precinct.
It consists of a 316 metre (1,039 ft) tall apartment building with 1,105 apartments over 100 floors.
Construction commenced in 2015, and was completed in 2020.
The aesthetics of this modern-day building are appealing and IMO, it most definitely enhances Melbourne’s skyline.
