Memorial for Nadir Gavarrete, age 9. He was walking across the street with his brother when he was mowed down by a driver on the corner of 4th and New Hampshire. The city planned and approved a roundabout and other safety improvements here years ago, but failed. DIY group, Crosswalk Collective LA painted a crosswalk in his honor last week. Hopefully, LADOT won’t erase it like they have done previously. #LosAngeles #VisionZero

@tazgetroete Wenn in Helsinki schon seit 21 Jahren Tempo 30 gilt, wieso soll ich dann im Jahr 2025 glauben, dass die damalige Einführung von Tempo 30 die Ursache dafür ist, dass nach über 20 Jahren dort erstmals ein Jahr lang kein Verkehrstoter zu beklagen war? Zumal eine ganze Reihe der üblichen Verkehrstoten hierzulande Radfahrer im toten Winkel von Lkw beim Abbiegen sind - also sehr deutlich unter 30 km/h. #visionzero #natenom #urbanlegends #symbolpolitik

A traffic engineer quoted in the article credits lower speed limits, automated camera enforcement, improved cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, and widely-used public transit.

(Not mentioned: speed bumps. Helsinki has raised crosswalks, which also act as gentle speed control, but I saw no mention of the unavoidably-jostling ones Philly's gotten overfond of.) #VisionZero
