Pewdiepie's message in his latest video is excellent: we don't have to deal with Big Tech's bullshit and Linux and open source is fun and awesome. With his massive audience I'm hopeful that this might become a pivotal moment in the desktop Linux adaptation in the mainstream, especially in the gaming community.

I noticed a high-pitched sound coming my new system, pressed the super key, typed in „fan“, opened #CoolerControl, saw that two #fans were running at 100%, turned of of them two 85% (which Just Worked(tm)!111?!), noise is gone

For the first time in my professional career I have control over my work machine and operating system. The Year of the Linux Desktop!

Ok to be fair I've been this way at home for years now. Now to somehow migrate my spouse...

Sometimes the volume / mute for the audio device I have in use stops matching up with the one that my volume buttons use. I'm not sure how to fix this. There's probably something on the Arch Wiki for it.

There's this interesting thing MATE has been doing lately: I close an application, and instead of the next window on the stack gaining focus, it only halfway gains focus.

So a terminal window will have the "this window isn't in focus" cursor and the titlebar will be in the "not in focus" color, but if I type, that window gets the key events.

Interesting. Useless and not desirable, but I wonder how things are structured that these focus types are not aligned.

I should figure out why DBus has started consuming
~4.4GB of RAM on the regular. It doesn't have a giant queue of messages that it's sitting on, and it doesn't have any really huge messages. It's just weird.

What you're looking for is 'Boomaga'. I stumbled upon this in a comment in a thread from a decade ago and have no idea why it isn't more widely recommended. It's great.
