@scalzi #HumbleBundle was a massive weakness for a time - I would say 90% of my Steam library has never been played, about the same will never be played, and most of the games I HAVE played were installed, tried for a few minutes, and then uninstalled.Actually, come to think of it, I bought a Sonic The hedgehog bundle years ago, and introduced my daughter to them a couple of mopnths ago, and now she is obsessed, so that is a cheap win - but yeah, most of the games wil never be played.

First off, the Network Security 3rd ed, by Radia Perlman et al is a GREAT comprehensive book about cryptography and security as it related to real world networks. First ed was from 1995, and this was updated in 2023. #oldskool and cool!

Humble's got a Dragonlance bundle on. Includes most of the mainline Weis/Hickman books, plus Heroes, Preludes.

Loved the earlier stuff when I was a teen. Didn't care for the Fifth Age.

The $1 tier is the War of Souls trilogy and the earlier stuff is at the $18 tier, which is a weird damn choice. And Second Generation isn't included.

As a #physics researcher doing a lot of #NumericalSimulation , I learned code mostly on my own with educated people around to answer my questions. Some that were not so easily answered were about how the F #git works. Mostly because many people learned other systems like SVN, but also because Git is not so easy to wrap your head around on your own when going on sophisticated stuff.

So I learned how to do the basics and that was roughly it until I finished (just now) Anna Skoulikari''s book "Learning Git" at O'Reilly. While it does not go into technical details, it is very simple in its examples and has diagrams that are helps to intuit what is going on for visual people (like me).

I'll put this into my future students hands without restriction. You should do the same. It will help them clutching how git works and starting good practice as software developers.
