Apple is expected to release iOS 18.3 to the public sometime in the coming week. While iOS 18.3 does offer new features, none of them are what most users would consider game-changing. Here's what's coming.

Is it #iOS18 that has removed the feature from Safari view controller where you could tap and hold on the address top-centre and get the option to COPY the link? So I now have to tap the share sheet icon then tap on Copy in the menu?

Little thoughts on iOS 18.2. I can now say "describe my screen," for Siri to describe a screenshot of the screen. I'm not sure how detailed the screenshots are, or what resolution they are. But the Describe Screenshot Shortcut, which I've posted about before, still is much more descriptive. I feel like this is a stopgap so that, technically, blind people with Apple Intelligence can get an LLM description, but before things are integrated into VoiceOver. I mean, you'll still get a good description, but no fancy stuff like if text is bold, where things are, stuff like that that the Shortcut provides.

Also, I'm curious to see what Google does with Gemini 2. I, embarrassingly, haven't tried the live video thing yet, but I will! And gaming will be among the first things I try! I just wish more systems allowed you to use your screen as a virtual camera. That'd make things a lot easier for that kind of thing.

Leaked Documents Show What #Phones Secretive Tech ‘#Graykey’ Can Unlock

The Graykey, a tool used by #lawenforcement around world, is only able to retrieve partial data from all modern #iPhones that run #iOS18 or iOS 18.0.1. Graykey’s capabilities against #Android devices are more mixed, likely due to high level of variance between Android devices

The ability to play background sounds right from #iOS18 is a game changer for me. I spent nine hours on public transport today and thanks to some artificial rain, I was (almost) unbothered by chanting football fans, chatting friend groups, and families with children 🕊️

(Also, do I want to know what “brown noise” is?)

Y'all! Apple introduced code into iOS 18.1 which reboots the device if it has not been unlocked for a period of time, reverting it to a state which improves the security of iPhones overall and is making it harder for police to break into the devices, according to multiple iPhone security experts.

Chris Wade, the founder of mobile analysis company Corellium, told 404 Media that after the fourth day of a device being in a locked state, the device reboots.

This is brilliant. I mean, I'm sure it was implemented to help with stolen phones not being hacked...but the fact that it stops spyware companies and cops from accessing your phone for about as long as it might take to get a search warrant? *chef's kiss*

Apple has hidden some great ambient sounds in Siri for HomePod use and now in the AirPods settings
The screenshot shows accessing them from Control Center. (I’m using 18.2 beta and AirPods Pro 2.) #ios18 #ios #airpodspro2 #homepods

Here’s some HomePod trigger phrases:
"Hey Siri — play white noise."
"Hey Siri — play ocean sounds."
"Hey Siri — play fireplace."
"Hey Siri — play night sounds."
"Hey Siri — play forest sounds."
"Hey Siri — play stream sounds."
"Hey Siri — play rain sounds."
