"In our century, American politics has been blown open by the reverberating crises of neoliberalism and capitalist globalization. They have rebounded on our society and politics in four major forms: imperial blowback and endless warfare; deindustrialization and the hollowing out of American society; the rise of an engorged, predatory, and increasingly insane billionaire class, obsessed with eugenics and immortality; and the climate crisis, now a source of regular natural disasters and swelling refugee flows. At each juncture, the Democrats have attempted restoration: to manage the crisis, carry out the bailout, stitch things back together, and try to get back to normal. "Bodies in graves and jails across America disprove it. We’re freedom-loving when times are easy, devoted to speech and worship we like with lip service to the rest, and divided about our differences since our inception. That doesn’t make us worse than any other nation. It’s all very human. But faith in the inherent goodness of Americans has failed us. Too many people saw it as a self-evident truth that the despicable rhetoric and policy of Trump and his acolytes was un-American. But to win elections you still have to talk people out of evil things. You can’t just trust them to reject evil. You must persuade. You must work. You have to keep making the same arguments about the same values over and over again, defend the same ground every time. Sometimes, when people are afraid or suffering and more vulnerable to lies, it’s very hard. Trump came wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross (upside down, but still) and too many people assumed their fellow Americans would see how hollow that was. That assumption was fatal."

"“Video has come out from Bucks County, Pennsylvania showing a ballot counter destroying ballots for Donald Trump and keeping Kamala Harris's ballots for counting,” an account called “Dan from Ohio” wrote in the comment section of the far-right website Gateway Pundit. “Why hasn't this man been arrested?”
But Dan is not from Ohio, and the video he mentioned is fake. He is in fact one of hundreds of inauthentic accounts posting in the unmoderated spaces of right-wing news site comment sections as part of a Russian disinformation campaign. These accounts were discovered by researchers at media watchdog NewsGuard, who shared their findings with WIRED.

“NewsGuard identified 194 users that all target the same articles, push the same pro-Russian talking points and disinformation narratives, while masquerading as disgruntled Western citizens,” the report states. The researchers found these fake accounts posting comments in four pro-Trump US publications: the Gateway Pundit, the New York Post, Breitbart, and Fox News. They were also posting similar comments in the Daily Mail, a UK tabloid, and French website Le Figaro."

"Among Trump’s claims: Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated him on his stint as a McDonald’s employee, calling it “one of the biggest things we’ve seen on Google”; Tim Cook called him to complain about fines the European Union levied on Apple; Mark Zuckerberg called him multiple times to “apologize” and said there’s “no way” he can vote for a Democrat after a shooter nearly took Trump’s life in Pennsylvania.

If true, it would be an interesting pivot for the leaders of companies that Trump has accused of “manipulating” votes in the 2016 election, “rigging” search results against him and other conservatives, and generally being “anti-Trump.” The accusations aren’t one-sided, either: Amazon has claimed that Trump used “improper pressure” to convince the Pentagon not to award the company a multibillion-dollar defense contract."

GETTING HARRIS SUPPORTERS AND SYMPATHIZERS TO ACTUALLY VOTE

It is my opinion that presidential polls no longer matter. What does matter is getting Democrats, Independents and non-Trump Republican voters to the polls. If we do that, we win. A few months ago, it was said that Harris had a much better organization than Trump for voter turnout. We can all hope it is so.

Harris has raised a lot more money than the Crazy Old Man. It seems to me this is a better measure of support than the polls.
