#uBlockOrigin

I've tried so hard to find an alternative browser to Firefox, and on Android in particular I just can't justify it! Extension support (which means uBlock Origin), great performance, not technically dependent on Google (but financially dependent) and I love the reader view, which is vastly superior to the Chromium equivalent. Bottom line, its just better for me, and whilst I'm disappointed with the privacy changes and the AI nonsense its still the best browser for me. #MozillaFirefox #WebBrowsers #uBlockOrigin

As always, #AdBlocking is #infosec:

If you're still using #GoogleChrome or #MicrosoftEdge then switch to #Firefox and install the #uBlockOrigin extension. It works on desktop and on Android. That alone will give you a safer, more enjoyable browsing experience.

Infoblox Infographic – Inside of malicious adtech:Who's who
Infosec ExchangeInfoblox Threat Intel (@InfobloxThreatIntel@infosec.exchange)Attached: 1 image Like CEOs at Coldplay concerts, we keep finding malicious adtech hiding behind well-known advertising brands. While these platforms may appear credible, they allow malicious actors access to their platform, and profit from their successes. Our posts often focus on adtech operators because they are the ones who manage the infrastructure. But they are not the only ones profiting from this business. Affiliates play a big role by driving traffic (aka visitors) to the adtech platform (TDS). Malicious affiliates do this by tricking visitors into clicking hidden links or manipulating pages to redirect them automatically. They are so good at it that they generate a profit just due to the sheer volume of traffic they drive into the platform. Legitimate affiliates do this by posting what they believe to be normal ads on their web pages, tempted by promises of big rewards. Unfortunately for them, this is rarely the reality, and there are many reports of affiliates being underpaid or not paid at all. Additionally, affiliates risk damaging their own brand image – no one wants their legitimate website redirecting to malware, right? As a user, regardless of how you find yourself diverted into a malicious TDS, if you happen to fit the profile then you face the risk of being sent to a malicious landing page. Scams, disinformation, malware…you name it. As there are many players involved in this scheme, we’ve created an infographic that highlights who they are and how they fit into the malicious adtech landscape. Have you come across any of these shady platforms or, worse, been lured into becoming part of the scheme? Just in the last couple of days, I've noticed #ublockorigin has become very aggressive, making even the rendering of Wikipedia pages horrible.

Anyone else get this? I imagine it has something to do with one of the blocklists, but don't know how to figure out which without switching each on off :/

🚫 YouTube: Detection, Ads or Breakages (including buffering/slowness) update from uBO team

jlai.lu/post/20649332

jlai.lu🚫 YouTube: Detection, Ads or Breakages (including buffering/slowness) update from uBO team - jlai.luFrom r/ublockorigin : For uBO users: A potential fix has been published which may solve the detection issue for many users. Click here to receive the fix [https://ublockorigin.github.io/uAssets/update-lists.html?listkeys=ublock-quick-fixes&manual=1], and then restart your browser. Users will also receive the fix automatically in a few hours. It is important that everyone understands that there are many reasons for YouTube adblock detection, and the fix may not be applicable for all cases. If the fix doesn’t resolve the issue for you, then please follow ALL of the instructions in the YouTube Mega Thread [https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/about/sticky?num=2], including how to properly report issues. For uBO Lite (uBOL) users: A new uBO Lite (uBOL) thread has been created on GitHub for YouTube issues, and this is where all uBOL-related issues with YouTube should be posted. https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/28707 [https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/28707] The potential fix for the YT detection issue will be included in the next release of uBOL. Please note that filters are only updated in uBOL when a new version is released, and users will need to wait until then for the fix. There is no exact date for when that will happen, but it should be relatively soon.
Continued thread

Common privacy techniques such as clearing cookies or using Private Browsing did not protect against this technique.

Browser vendors are working to block this traffic, some have already pushed updates.

I guess anti-tracking filters for ad blockers such as #uBlockOrigin did prevent this (not including the #MetaPixel script or not allowing the #Yandex localhost traffic).

Anybody has any details?

@tyler @lauren

My experience is similar to yours, Tyler: I use #Firefox, #uBlockOrigin and a bunch of other self-defence plugins, such as #decentraleyes and #PrivacyBadger, all running on Linux. With one exception, everything Just Works. The only site that requires #GoogleChrome is a private site run by my employer. That, IMHO, is just sloppy engineering; it shouldn't be hard to run an HR site without locking clients into a single browser.

Lauren, if you'd like to persevere with Firefox, you might consider typing about:profiles into the address bar, setting up a new profile (a trivial operation), and seeing if that works with the sites you want to use.

Well, this stinks. YouTube has figured out how to bypass the uBlock Origin ad-blocker in Vivaldi again.

<sigh>

So back to using Firefox as an ad-less YT viewer since uBlock is still doing the job.

And no, I don't give a sh*t that 'ad blocker violate YT.' I hate getting ads shoved down my throat.

Manchmal fühlt sich der Kampf für die (eigene) #informationelleSelbstbestimmung - den #Datenschutz - aussichtslos an,
ich möchte daher daran erinnern, dass auch kleine Schritte etwas bewirken können:
* Nutzt einen Ad- und Tracking-Blocker (#uBlockOrigin)
* Ändert die Standardsuchmaschine(auch wenn ihr diese nicht zu 100% nutzt) (#DuckDuckGo #Ecosia #Qwant #SwissCows)
* Wechselt den #Browser(#FireFox #Brave #LibreWolf)
