Last night's #CERN #Games Club event for the #RPG curious was a great success!

We had seven tables running various games including #DnD, #BladesInTheDark, #BladeRunner and #IntoTheOdd. Three of the GMs were from #SwissRPG. I didn't count exactly but I think we had about 50 participants, with around 25% coming from outside CERN.

I ran the #DCC #funnel "Underneath the Well of Brass". 8 players, 2 characters each, mortality rate was about 50%.

Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure, "Beneath the Well of Brass" on top of a map of the Devil's Maw from the adventure, with some dice, a Death stamp and a pack of TPK tissues.

I recently read Mythic Bastionland, by Chris McDowall 🛡️⚔️.

In #TTRPG, play examples / replays are generally used to illustrate what an "ideal" game should look like.

Here, the author includes dysfunctional situations and discusses how to handle them.

I don't remember encountering this way to use replays in a core rulebook before, it's pretty interesting :blobthinking:.

3. First RPG bought this year

#IntoTheOdd. I had bee looking forward to reading it for a while, and it is pretty good! I get why it spun a lot of hacks around it. I added it to our options for campaign 2, it wasn't selected but I'll probably play it at some point

I am of the "I won't ever run #5e" camp. I will play in it, to observe the style of play and then pull the "Hey, I wanna run D&D...I have some house rules." Then bust out #DCC #blackSwordHack #blackHack #OSE #whiteHack #intoTheOdd or some such thing.

Why? Because #5e is so very non-GM facing. And I'd rather not. Also, much of what I've seen in "actual play" would be better served with less character abilities.

As part of my year long exploration of rpg design and mechanics I'm playing Into the Odd today!

Light on text but the book itself is gorgeous. The mechanics are straightforward if sparse. I think the damage system feels pretty slick. However, from what I understand it is all about the adventure rather than the rules. It's going to take a second to remember 1s are good, 20s are bad!

So! Into dungeon crawl my friend!
