I just love how #namecheap markets its shared hosting service package, Stellar Plus, as unlimited email addresses, disk space, and bandwidth and all for around $6.48 a month. Sounds like a bargain, am I right? Well, what they don't tell you is that you only get 300,000 inodes of usage until you've actually paid. What is an inode you ask? Well, it's a file. So, you only get 300,000 files. That's not quite unlimited now, is it?
This just makes me hate the #cloud that much more.
What’s a good domain #registrar these days?
Something on par with #Namecheap (I’m on Namecheap and I like them, and I know they have a lot of staff all over the world and especially in Ukraine, but unfortunately they’re American).
If you use #NameCheap for anything, another round of "Your Auto-Renewal Payment Didn’t Go Through" phishing emails are hitting inboxes. #infosec
Where they are getting real emails that link up to real domain renewal whois records, esp if you use domain privacy options, I'm not sure. They sent it to a dedicated email account that I use exclusively for Namecheap that shouldn't be in the publicverse.
@mauro I have a yunohost instance running on a VM on my network. My #namecheap domain DNS supports dynamicDNS and I use #ddclient on the VM side to synchronize my dynamic IP to DNS.
Hello #Fediverse, I need some help!
I am moving a website from GitHub Pages to #Netlify . The domain is register via #Namecheap, and when I was looking to the documentation, it isn't clear to me how to set up the DNS (I don't want to transfer the domain to Netlify).
Any tips or instruction pages that I can use will be very much appreciated!

NameCheap used to leave your domain names alone while you were in renewal grace period. I did my bi-annual debit card replacement and before I could change it in #NameCheap and respond to the email saying the card on file was bad, midnight struck, and they changed the DNS and IP to some odd "Pay or else" Parking page. Good to know. It's been many, many years since I was in grace for anything, so, this could be an old change that I just #FAFO Luckily, I was only in Grace a couple hours and recovered quickly.

@daygar I'm a very loyal #A2Hosting customer for twelve years now. However, if you don't need hosting, their domain offers might be a bit more expensive, and not all TLDs are available. Recently I've registered a couple domains at #NameCheap. The process was also smooth.
Pro-tip: if you're using #namecheap and #letsencrypt and #dehydrated - it's not _acme-challenge.yourdomain.com in the TXT record entry, it's just _acme-challenge
I knew that, but apparently it's been long enough that I had time to forget it. Again. Doh!
@stefanmuelller Ach, so was kriege ich schon seit fast 2 Jahren...
Going to fire up a #Castopod instance, the #Fediverse enabled #Podcasting server, on one of my parked domains now that it is in the standard PHP #Softaculous app store at #Namecheap
"Castopod is a Free & open-source hosting platform made for podcasters who want engage and interact with their audience.
Castopod was created in an effort to provide an open and sustainable alternative to hosting your podcasts, promoting decentralization..."
Also, looks like #NameCheap hosting has included it in their Softaculous version. The don't offer the full software library. This is welcoming.

#Stress... switched from #googledomains to #namecheap, as to #NOT get caught in the #squarespace price hike... (I'd rather get #caughtinamosh)
All went well... 16 #domains... one fell swoop... even my @protonmail...
Or did it...? Nope... worked for a week, then... nothing.
But I followed all the instructions... all the #badges were green...!?!
Then it happen @protonmail disabled all my email accounts... ugh... now what... they can no longer #verify my #domain.
If you use #NameCheap hosting, a new round of #phishing emails are happening that make it appear you need to respond due to #RoundCube issues. Be careful.
To refresh, recently, there was a major RoundCube hack across the globe with different service providers, not just NameCheap.
The round that is going on now is using the NameCheap logo and color scheme. #infosec #security
Warning! If you use #namecheap for domains, be aware that there's currently a phishing campaign going on, that's very convincing and getting around DKIM & Spam filters:

On October 4, 2023, #NameCheap will raise domain prices for .live, .life, .world, and 200 other domains.
See the top 20 TLDs affected in the image below. #WebHosting #Domains #DomainNames
Namecheap To Raise .COM and .XYZ Domain Price by 9%.
They sent me an email.
"On September 1, 2023, the domains registry for .COM and .XYZ will implement universal price increases of up to 9% for .COM renewals, and up to 9% for .XYZ renewals, registrations, and transfers."
In a blog post, they blame Verisign’s pattern of increases and say it's out of their control.

I just discovered that #namecheap uses the weak, deprecated #openssh algorithm ssh-rsa for command line access to my shared hosting account. After seeing this, I'm thinking that I've gotten exactly what I've paid for - cheap service. I'm thinking that I need to find a provider that does big things like care about the security of my data. So much for 5.88 a month!
