Just had an hour long phone call with my Persian "niece" (finally granted PR last June, and looking forward to citizenship) in Adelaide. She's just done her first year of Architecture at uni. I'm a very proud Auntie! Her family endured so much to get here, including detention, and years of uncertainty. She's worked so very hard to get to uni. Architecture is her passion and she's so determined. I miss her, can't wait to catch up with her, and her family, early next year. #Architecture #Persian #Refugees #PermanentResidency

Isn't it time we all learned some basic facts?

Iranians are not #Arab, they are #Persian.

#Afghanistan is a South-Central Asian country composed of many different ethnicities, none of which are Arab.

"Arab" is a cultural and linguistic term. It refers to those who speak #Arabic as their first language. Arabs are united by a rich culture and a long history.

Arabs are not a race. Some have blue eyes and red hair; others are dark skinned; many are somewhere in between.

Ok, I have a request that I am hoping Mastodon can deliver.

I am looking for some reading material on Autism and supporting autistic kids *in Persian*. I have a friend who may be going down the diagnosis path with their kid, and so far they have been using Google translate, but it's really bad for Persian translation. If anyone can point me in the direction of any documents, books, advice etc that is in Persian that I can show to her, that would be amazing.

Any leads would be great, thankyou

(also worth noting, my own kid is on the autism spectrum, and we can see from her diagnosis and talking to the person who dx'd kiddo both me and my dad are too - but we are new to this and I want to find already translated text by a human because we have found google translate to be really unreliable and sometimes says the opposite of what we are trying to say. we both speak a little french, but not enough for a proper translation.)

Today in Labor History August 19, 1953: The U.S. CIA and British MI6 helped Iranian royalist troops overthrow the liberal-leaning Premier Mohammed Mossadegh. As Prime Minister, he introduced reforms such as social security, land reforms and higher taxes including on rental income. He also nationalized the nation’s petroleum industry, which the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC/AIOC), later known as British Petroleum (BP) could not tolerate. As a result, they installed the brutal, pro-Western Shah Mohammed Pahlevi. The brutality of his regime, the torture, secret police, disappearances and mass imprisonment of opponents, set the stage for the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and over 45 years of US aggression against Iran.
