#Google is so deep in #enshittification that I begin to believe in pure intent.

#Searching for a special moss, they give me links for the US Marine Corps, AI-generated ugliest wallpaper, and vegan fast food shops. Nothing contains moss.
But it's not only Google! #Ecosia is more on the vegan-esoteric beauty side while #Qwant throws military weapons. No moss either.

The intent? Making people stupid. Then you can better fill them up with #propaganda and #FakeNews. We need #knowledge attacks!

Resurrecting Qwant: New Owners Bet On GenAI To Provide Answers

Excerpt:

"Frankly, in 2019, building a search engine was not affordable for Qwant and it never was," he said. "The mistake was not to explain that and try to hide it. Qwant has been focused on privacy. And the team had worked hard on a solution with Microsoft that meant it didn't share data with Microsoft."

Even now, New Qwant will need a 3rd party to help with long-tail search results. Still, the transformation at New Qwant was underway when Microsoft dropped a bomb: It was dramatically raising its search API rates. This change also hit other search engines like Ecosia that relied on Bing.

"18 months ago, Microsoft changed access to Bing's search API," he said. "They increased the price without any good reason. All of us realized that we were so dependent on Microsoft that their strategy change could kill us. We decided we should not be in the passenger side but that we should be in the driver's seat."

So Qwant and Ecosia teamed up to create a 50-50 joint venture called the European Search Perspective (EUSP). Qwant will transfer the search indexing infrastructure it was building as well as some of its engineers and data scientists. Ecosia is making a cash contribution."

Steht auch irgendwo, was die Voraussetzung dafür ist, dass Geld überhaupt eingenommen werden kann?

Soweit ich das herausgefunden habe, kann Ecosia nur dann Bäume pflanzen, wenn durch die eingeblendete Werbung Einnahmen generiert werden. Das Mindeste dürfte also sein, dass man diese Werbung "qualifiziert" anklickt.

Das mache ich aber nicht. Deshalb würde Ecosia auch kein Geld mit mir verdienen. Obwohl meine Suchanfrage trotzdem Geld kosten würde. Würde ich Ecosia nutzen, könnten sie weniger Bäume pflanzen.

Ich möchte nicht dazu beitragen, dass durch meine Suchanfragen, die Welt schlechter wird, als unbedingt nötig.

Dass viele denken, dass die Suchergebnisse von Ecosia nicht von Google kommen, liegt auch an der ansonsten mangelnden Transparenz von Ecosia:

Wenn ich Bing oder Google nutze, zahle ich kein Geld an die beiden. Anders offenbar, wenn ich Ecosia benutzen würde.

Wer Infos dazu direkt bei Ecosia sucht, kann sich einen Wolf suchen...

Insofern stellt sich auch die Frage, ob die über Ecosia gepflanzten Bäume als Gradmesser für den Konsumwahsinn der Nutzer taugen...

Geplanzte Bäume sind ja schön und gut, die Frage ist aber zu welchem Preis.

Übrigens: Youtube gehört auch zu google.

As for Qwant and Ecosia's reliance on Bing, it's partial - when their index isn't enough to deliver results, they turn to Bing, for example for images, recent news, etc. They're both working on a European index to be released in 2025:

An #unplugtrump kann man sich ja ziemlich gut abarbeiten. Vor allem an den „Grenzfällen“:

Nur zwei Beispiele von vielen, die mich immer wieder auf den Teppich zurückholen. 80:20 ist schon viel, finde ich. 100% hieße letztlich auf IT überhaupt zu verzichten. Das kann und will ich aber nicht.
