What to do if bullying? Try consistent boundaries

1. do not writhe or waver. (Movement attracts the bully)
2. do not attempt to appease. (Any offer is interpreted as weakness and obtains thrust)
3. flee to a safe position that you could hold with support
4. then stand still. Set limits on how others treat you. Affirm boundaries (The bully will redirect attacks eventually)
5. connect: turn to a trusted person, reach out only to someone you feel well about
6. offer backing, foster, become accomplice, enjoy

Musical Interlude: In 1960, the film LET NO MAN WRITE MY EPITAPH was released. Not the greatest, but the cast included Shelly Winters, Burl Ives, James Darren, Jean Seberg...and Ella Fitzgerald. In a small role as a heroin-addicted lounge singer, Fitzgerald is actually decent, but one gets the sense she wasn't entirely comfortable being an actress.

Anyway, she released an album of songs from the movie that is now regarded as her best work, bar none. With just her voice and a solo piano, she's stunning. The soundtrack was later rereleased under the title "The Intimate Ella" but is now back out there under its original name.

"Then You've Never Been Blue," performed by Ella Fitzgerald.

Musical Interlude: The late Susannah McCorkle loved this track, writing of it once that it was a moment when everything came together, everyone on the same page, relaxed and in the moment, comparing it to the vibe of a late-night jam session. I have to agree, it's a track that just WORKS, you know?

"They Can't Take That Away from Me," performed by Susannah McCorkle.
