TMのデータを前提にする必要がなくなれば、翻訳のワークフローも大幅に変わりそう。
そもそもマーケ英日翻訳の場合(というか私の場合)、特定のフレーズごとの対訳データは使えないことが多く(前後の文章の文脈や読み手のマーケットが変われば語調や助詞・助動詞が変化するため)、結局頼っているのはTBで、TMは参考にはするけれどもそのままコピーすることはほとんどないです。

最近チェッカーのお仕事が増えてきたので、久松紀子さんのnoteを読み返しています。

マーケティング翻訳の場合、コマーシャルライティングが得意ではない翻訳者さんの「正確に訳しただけの文章」では商品が売れないのでたくさん直しを入れるわけですが、改悪されたと言われることもあり。

商品の魅力とクライアントの求める訴求ポイントをしっかりと理解してから訳せば、文脈を綺麗に拾った「正しいマーケの文章」が書けると私は思うのですが。

実はここのところ原文そのままをひたすら「きちんと」訳そうとする翻訳者さんとご一緒するプロジェクトが続き、もうヘトヘトなのです。「正確な訳とは」の定義がズレている方とコンビになると、とてもやりづらい……。

QCのサインオフのお仕事。改行の位置、文字の割付といった簡単なチェックのはずが、届いた日本語の訳文のクオリティーがひどすぎて……。
私がもらえるのは短時間のQC作業分の料金。PMさんにエディター料金をお支払いいただけないのなら文章はこのままの状態でお返ししますよ、と報告。

「てよだわ」言う、言いますよ。

でも不自然な「てよだわ言葉」(女性性だから自動的に全部てよだわなのよ)は、モダンファミリー設定のセリフにはしっくり来ませんのよですわ。
全消し→お直し中。

今朝グローバル企業の広報さんに御社にとって日本市場はどんなポジションなんです？と尋ねたら、Japanese market is middle to low priority と言われやっぱりね、となりました。いつの間にか上客ではなくなったジャパン。

最近MLVのプロジェクトでも多言語タスクなのに日本語は必要なし、というケースも多くて。売り上げの見込めない市場にコストをかけたくない。そりゃそうですよね。

トランスクリエーションが新しいものであるという認識が同業者の中にまだあることを知りびっくり。そのコンセプト自体は何十年も前からあるものだし、2000年以降はトランスクリエーションに特化した翻訳エージェントもたくさん出てきている。

「創訳」なんて名前をつけている方がいらっしゃるけど、この技術に今さら名づける必要なんてあるのかな。

My client returned the translated document to me for the final check, filled with frustratingly literal wording. Why did they change my carefully crafted copies? It’s the opposite of “改善” improvement - more like “改悪” a step backward…

私が翻訳したコピーの最終チェック。ん？クライアントさんだいぶ直したね？これでは直訳すぎて意味ワカラン。改悪する意味とは。

ここ半年くらい、意識して作業後のチェックの時間を増やしています。
①指示・資料を読む/クエリを送る
②原文を通しで読む
③曖昧なタームや言葉を調べる
④翻訳する
⑤訳文を通しで読む
⑥誤字脱字、表記ゆれをチェック・訂正する
➆原文を見ずに訳文だけを読み「翻訳くさい」部分の臭いを消してナチュラルな文章にする
⑧訳文を読む
⑨申し送りの内容をチェックしてから納品

以前は⑤〜⑧にかける時間よりも④のほうが長くて、凡ミスが続いたり自分でも納得いかないまま慌てて納品したりしていました。
今は清々しい「やりきった」感があります。丁寧に仕上げた仕事だから、クレームが来ても自信を持って反論できますし。

Intuitive を毎回「直感的な」と訳すのはやめてー。おカタイ文章でもないのに、「および / あるいは / または」はやめてー。
