Help, defend & protect your fellow #citizens.
Your #governments & the (mostly corrupt) #politicians don't need to be defended, protected or given a hand up. Your neigbours do though.

Hold your politicians accountable. Demand that they actually do their jobs to serve their constituents. They're not your genuine friend. They are elected #PublicServants. Remind them of that fact because many forget about their #duty & #responsibility to serve the public, once they get elected.

«I am unforgiving of GOP Congressional cowardice. They pledged an oath to support and defend the Constitution. They have historically sent millions into war, the sometimes-tenuous justification being a need to defend our way of life. There is now a coup afoot and it falls to Congress itself to defend us.

Any in Congress sustaining the coup because they fear for their job, their safety or the safety of their family are committing treason.

Protecting and defending the US is not optional, something to do if it's convenient. It is a sworn duty. »

#Heinlein concluded that higher forms of #morality are defined by one's willingness to #sacrifice self-interest and/or self-preservation out of a sense of #duty to advance the survival and well-being of a larger identity group: family, community, nation, humanity, and ultimately all Life itself.

This was the true message of #StarshipTroopers, in case you haven't actually read the book, or have only seen the ridiculous cinematic parody of the book made by Paul Verhoeven.

The reason it is important to include the Golden Rule is because it implies something that the other two do not: #charity or #altruism, that we ought to help others in need, because we would almost certainly wish for others to help us when we are in need, ourselves.

But as Robert #Heinlein astutely observed, a sense of #duty is something that can only arise from within; it cannot be externally imposed.

And that brings up point #4, that self-preservation is the root of #morality, not its crown.

What I found was that although the Stop the Steal movement of 2020 has evolved into the considerably more sophisticated “#ElectionIntegrity” movement of 2024, its success is still premised on persuading #election administrators of 2 things that are NOT TRUE: that widespread #ElectionFraud is a real & present threat to #democracy & that they have not only the #authority but also the #legal #duty to do something about it—that they must “do their duty” & deny #certification.

#Trump has frequently voiced his disdain for those who #serve in the #military & for their devotion to #duty, #honor, & #sacrifice. Fmr generals who have worked for Trump say that the sole military virtue he prizes is #obedience. As his presidency drew to a close, & in the years since, he has become more & more interested in the advantages of #dictatorship, & the absolute control over the military that he believes it would deliver. “I need the kind of generals that #Hitler had,” Trump said….

So, if I drive to the US and buy a $250 chair -- is there duty or whatnot crossing back into Canada, say, after 48 hours? I can't figure out why the same chair is $1,500 in Canada. I'm thinking of going to the US and buying one, but am wondering if there will be some pricey surprise at the #border crossing. Is there something beyond the normal 9.5% #duty for #furniture?
Also, if I were to by it online a few days before going there, would I still have to stay for some minimum to time to avoid extra duty or whatever?

You have the right to work, but never to the fruit of the work. You should never engage in action for the sake of reward, nor should you long for inaction.

Tzahal preferred to use “dumb” bombs to strike the homes of the marked persons. “You don’t want to waste expensive bombs on unimportant people — it’s very expensive for the country and there’s a shortage [of those bombs],” said C., one of the intelligence officers.

If a junior target lived in a building with only a few floors, the army was authorized to kill him and everyone in the building with a dumb bomb.
“We usually carried out the attacks with dumb bombs, and that meant literally destroying the whole house on top of its occupants. But even if an attack is averted, you don’t care — you immediately move on to the next target. Because of the system, the targets never end. You have another 36,000 waiting.”

+972 Magazine · ‘Lavender’: The AI machine directing Israel’s bombing spree in GazaThe Israeli army has marked tens of thousands of Gazans as suspects for assassination, using an AI targeting system with little human oversight and a permissive policy for casualties, +972 and Local Call reveal.

B., the senior officer, claimed that in the current war, “I would invest 20 seconds for each target at this stage, and do dozens of them every day. I had zero added value as a human, apart from being a stamp of approval. It saved a lot of time.”

According to B., a common error occurred “if the [Hamas] target gave [his phone] to his son, his older brother, or just a random man. That person will be bombed in his house with his family. This happened often. These were most of the mistakes caused by Lavender,” B. said.
