We light outdoor spaces at night for many reasons, among which is to ensure our nighttime safety and security, but there is little evidence that outdoor lighting deters crime. Quality lighting design promotes better nighttime visibility by exploiting the amazing power of human vision across a large dynamic range. Read how the "lighting for reassurance" design ethic empowers users of outdoor spaces at night by giving them confidence in the integrity of their surroundings.

I generally review dance in Philly, and I am pretty geeky about the nuts and bolts of putting together a show. I've written about pointe shoes in the past, but this time I got to talk to lighting designers.

I've seen some bad lighting in dance, but sometimes it is really magical. I wanted to know how they did it for those particular shows. I let them know up front what shows I'd want to talk about--I had photos from when I did the reviews, and they had photos from when the did the work, and we pulled back the curtain to see how they did that. But really, it's magic

How do you build your plan?
I like to start with the backlight. For me the backlight shapes everything else. Then I switch between dropping in the big moments and the general, so that the generals are working along side the specials as much as possible.

On this #HeritageTheatreRefurb I have an awful official title, but my job is venue design and delivery second.

Where PomPom (my boss) is the king cheese, I’m the creamy blue that is sharp & sweet depending on the context. And how badly you done goofed.

I’ve helped design systems; asked annoying questions; tracked #Budgets; driven equipment #Procurement; helped with #LightingDesign, #SoundDesign; argued a lot about #Drapes, #Paint, & yes we need fucking door handles there are you shitting me

I hate to admit it, but, as a woman on social media, if a man with no common interests and no shared history follows me...I block him.
So if you don't mention #pug #pugs #knitting #crochet #spinning #HandSpinning #dogs #SpinningWheels #gardening #BackyardGardening #Chickens #BackyardChickens or even #ArchitecturalLighting #LightingDesign in your profile...or even some sort of craft.
If we've had even one conversation about stuff above or maybe #yarn, I feel less threatened.
