Credit where credit's due - I say again, the keyboard and trackpad on the #MacbookPro (mine anyway - M1 Pro) are really, really good. I don't think I've ever enjoyed typing on a #laptop keyboard or using a trackpad before but this is certainly a great experience for a die hard #mechanicalkeyboard and mouse user.

The kid reached 108wpm using monkeytype - damn. He's insane on laptop keebs. I'll have to see how I test later.

New MacBook Pro Arriving Today

I ordered a refurbished M4, which will replace my aging Mac Mini M1. Even though I mostly use it at my desk, I’ve learned that portability is a nice option. I’ve had good luck with refurbished Macs in the past so I hope this one works out well too.

Now I just need to make sure I’m around when the UPS guy shows up.

Continued thread

So, continuing with #DecentSampler on #Apple. Well, the Decent Sampler runs smoothely. But this iPad MIDI thing I don't get to run.

Another option would be to use my old #MacBookPro 2017 with #OSX. Decent Sampler works out of the box on the old OS X 12.x.

I plug in my MIDI-USB source, which is a Roland GI20 guitar-to-midi system. OS X ignores it. I plug in some USB-MIDI-5pin adapter. OS X ignores it. I plug in another of these adapters/midi interfaces. Nothing.

Turns out in the end that the Roland GI20 does not work with Apple products at all. It only works out of the box with #Linux. For all other OSses it needs special drivers.

Apple offers me an update of IOS 15.something, and with one of the USB-MIDI-interfaces plugged into the oldskool MIDI port of the GI20 I can now finally use DecentSampler on an Apple machine, funnily on IOS 15, which fails with many MIDI applications such as MixingStation + fader controllers.

However, this iPad is too weak for DecentSampler.

Hey fedi friends,

I’m currently decluttering and found my old #MacBookPro. I figured it wasn’t good for anything except recycling at this point but then I noticed Apple will still buy them back so... I figured I’d see if any fedi friends have need of an Early 2015 MacBook Pro.

I’m sorry if it’s so ancient that the offer is silly but if you just wanted to check emails/apply to jobs/write a book/etc. it would still probably serve you well.

Warning! - As befitting a laptop on fedi, it is covered in liberal and queer propaganda :blobhaj_heartrainbow: (Sorry for the pic, of course I'll give it a good dusting before sending your way!)

#Free to good home, preferably someone who needs it :neocat_heart: if you can cover shipping that's great but if that's not in budget I can pay to ship to US addresses. (DMs open)

Specs in pic, charger included (probably several as I find them). Again, sorry if this is ridiculous!

I have a 15” MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip. I have new Cat 6 cable and a brand new Anker USB-C to Ethernet 2.5 gbps dongle.

My Ethernet drops whenever I plug the MacBook to charge—either by MagSafe or USB-C. I’ve switched USB-C ports (there’s 3) repeatedly and it is definitely dropping the minute I plug in a charger and will resume once I disconnect the charger.

Anyone experience this? Is there a fix? #apple #anker #macbookpro #ethernet #dongletown
