Models of Time and Space from Astrophysics and World Cultures by Bryab E. Penprase, 2023

Explores how our conceptions of time, space, and the physical universe have evolved across cultures throughout the centuries. Developed with a humanistic approach, this book blends historical sources, biographical profiles of exceptional scientists, and the latest discoveries in both astrophysics and particle physics.

"For the vast majority of human history, we’ve relied on the Sun to tell time – a reliably unreliable method, given the body’s tendency to disappear behind clouds and the horizon. This animation from the YouTube channel Deconstructed explores how, as ancient civilisations began to need more reliable timekeeping mechanisms, the technology took an extraordinary leap forward with the advent of dependable water clocks, which would remain the best technology available for the next 1,800 years. In particular, the video focuses on the engineering brilliance of a Greek inventor in Alexandria named Ctesibius who, in the 3rd century BCE, solved several mechanical riddles that had previously made water clocks’ measurements woefully imprecise. Through its detailed breakdown, the video makes the case that, more than just a major innovation in timekeeping, Ctesibius’s water clock was one of the world’s first automatically operating machines."

"_In the 3rd century BCE, in the city of Alexandria, a brilliant Greek inventor named Ctesibius created a water-powered timekeeping device, so precise it remained unmatched for the next 1,800 years, until the invention of the pendulum clock in 1656._"

Can nothing on this wretched ball of dirt just act normal!?

> Earth is expected to spin more quickly in the coming weeks, making some of our days unusually short. On July 9, July 22 and Aug. 5, the position of the moon is expected to affect Earth's rotation so that each day is between 1.3 and 1.51 milliseconds shorter than normal.

"Yummy Yummy Yummy" is a song by #ArthurResnick and #JoeyLevine, first recorded by #OhioExpress in 1968. Their version reached No. 4 on the #USPopSingles chart in June and No. 5 on the #UKSinglesChart. It has since been covered by many artists. Ohio Express was a studio concoction and none of the "official" members appear on the record. Joey Levine sang lead vocals. #Time magazine included it in its 2011 list of songs with silly lyrics.

New theory proposes #time has three dimensions, with space as a secondary effect
Time, not space plus time, might be the single fundamental property in which all physical phenomena occur, according to a new theory by a University of Alaska Fairbanks scientist.
The theory also argues that time comes in three dimensions rather than just the single one we experience as continual forward progression. Space emerges as a secondary manifestation.

How do you keep your interest going with #genealogy? Is the spark still alive? Or is the magic gone?

This is something that I've been struggling with. Recently, I had to make a few decisions on where to spend my #time.

I would love to hear from others on their thoughts about gen #research, #brickwalls, and #burnout

I wrote down a few of my thoughts and issues:

ancestryroads.blogspot.comThe Magic is GoneLosing interest in genealogy after a lot of dedicated work, time, and effort is disheartening but it's also ok.

Display the full date and time on the Status Bar.

The clock on Vivaldi’s Status Bar lets you take a quick glance at the time while you’re browsing as well as set alarms and timers for yourself. By default, only the hours and minutes are displayed, but you can add the current date and seconds to it as well.

To display the full date and time:

  1. Right-click on the clock.
  2. Select “Show date” and “Show Seconds” from the menu.
