I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

To #FDroid users, you might use #NTFY for having push notifications.

If you are rate-limited or want to test un another distributor, you can use #Sunup

It is an UnifiedPush distributor using Mozilla's push server. It is very easy to use.

Even without that, #ntfy still has per account rate limits. If you're using ntfy and are not a subscriber to one of the paid tiers you get 250 notifications per day. After that they're throttled. So keep that in mind.

Either way, #Pachli Current will still try and fetch new notifications every 15 minutes (subject to your device's battery settings) so if either of these situations occur your notifications are delayed, not lost.

Continued thread

There are still some things that are outside of #Pachli's control that might affect the timeliness of notification delivery.

The #Mastodon software does not respect the #ntfy rate limits. For example, if you're on mastodon.social and use the public ntfy service notifications may still be delayed if ntfy.sh is still blocking mastodon.social.

Today I learned: If you use #ntfy and its official server ntfy.sh for push notifications and you wonder why you're not getting any of those in time when using apps such as #Element or #Fedilab you might want to look for an alternative since there is some heavy rate limiting going on:
1) Pay for ntfy.sh: ntfy.sh/#pricing
2) Switch to another open instance (such as ntfy.adminforge.de/).
3) Host your own ntfy server docs.ntfy.sh/install/

Don't forget to delete your topics in ntfy and to register your apps again!

The coming release of #Fedilab fixes annoying crashes. We will add the support to Android 14 and also, we will add a fix that will prevent issues with #NTFY (ntfy.sh for push notifications - #Fdroid release is only impacted).

We will publish that release this week in our custom Fdroid repo and for Google beta testers.
