My sister (42) has been diagnosed with ‘hyper dynamic LV function with EF 70%’ which puts her in a risky place cardiac-wise. She’s autistic and highly prone to anxiety so she’s freaking out big time, understandably. 😕 I had a few freak outs after my sole afib incident until I got stress under control!

I’m trying to help her (her request) with exercise, starting with gentle yoga and mindfulness. Anyone in the same boat have recommendations? ❤️ #cardiology #HeartHealth #autism #exercise

@themaskerscomic this is really remarkably solid data

The cohort included 297,920 SARS-CoV-2-positive individuals and 915,402 SARS-CoV-2-negative controls. Every individual had at least a six-month follow-up after cohort entry

With a range of risk ratios from roughly +25% to +200%! That's up to triple the risk!

children and adolescents [...] infected with SARS-CoV-2 exhibited increased risks for a range of post-acute cardiovascular outcomes, with RR [risk ratio] between 1.26 and 2.92

and things have not gotten better with newer variants:

similar cardiovascular outcomes in children infected with the Delta and Omicron variants

NatureCardiovascular post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 in children and adolescents: cohort study using electronic health records - Nature CommunicationsPost-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection affecting the cardiovascular system have been reported, but evidence in young people is limited. Here, the authors quantify the incidence of a range of outcomes in children and adolescents using electronic health records from the United States.

FYI, Penny graduated from Cardiac Rehab, after her August 16th widow maker heart attack. #CardiacRehab #Heart #Health #Cardiology

She is now in month 6. Will be 7 months on the 16th.

I can relax when we get to the 12-month goal. We're optimistic she will make that mark.

She is still weak, esp shortness of breath, and no real measurable improvement. However, the odds of surviving the first night was extremely low and only slightly improved with the widow maker the first month.

She still is in a supervised cardio program at the local hospital twice a week, only not the specific "Cardiac Rehab" program you enter after a heart attack, nor the one insurance pays for but we thought it was beneficial and doing it out of pocket since she gets weaker and takes a downturn in between visits.

We just got back from the university hospital last week for a battery of tests and go back next week for the results. That is a three-hour one-way trip in another state due to where we live.

HOW COOL IS THIS? 🤩

Women in #Bolivia are #KNITTING tiny #occluders ('top hats' to block a hole in the #heart) of ELASTIC METAL, which are then folded up in a catheter, inserted into the body, travel ON THEIR OWN to the heart, then 'pop open' to their proper shape, b/c they 'remember' what shape they are supposed to be.

“This is one of those studies at ACC that I think is potentially practice changing,” said Kim Eagle, director of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan who wasn’t involved in the trial. It’s “a very important landmark study that will change the way patients who are currently managed with [heart attacks] are cared for.”
