You know how folks will tell you that you should still use likes/favorites, even if they're are private, to let people know when you enjoy their posts?

A random thing I realized that I haven't really seen pointed out before, this can also be useful for people who use the number of likes/favorites to determine which posts should be automatically deleted.

Hello, new here! Looking for folks to connect with that like the exploring the outdoors, gardening, hiking, plants, wine, Pilates, Barre, reading, sleeping, cats, breweries or professional emailers like myself. I'm easygoing and a homebody. Our interests don't have to align exactly and if you work in the L&D field I'd love to connect. Please follow me and I'll follow you back 👋 #NewHere #Likes #FirstPost #Cats #Breweries #Wine #Hiking #Gardening #Plants #Reading #Pilates #LearningandDevelopment

I agree with your approach: a Like is an appreciation, sent to the author, whereas a Boost is an elevation, sent to my followers.

An added dimension is the "cost" to others. A Like is cost-free: my followers don't see it, and the author won't lose anything through it. Whereas a Boost takes up space in my followers' timelines, and that space is scarce. Boosting is a valuable gift, but it imposes on others and we must give it sparingly.

Implemented liking/favoriting of #Mastodon posts via Bridgy Fed on my site! (Actually of any post on any site that #BridgyFed can discover an #ActivityPub endpoint to send likes to.)

Tested it by liking @evanp.me (@evan@cosocial.ca @evanpro)’s reply¹ confirming that he received a notification from my prior post². I sent a #Webmention from my like post³ to Bridgy Fed, and it #federated the like to Evan’s server, which subsequently showed up in the "favourites" list of Evan’s post:

Every step that connects heterogenous #socialWeb systems & protocols feels like progress.

Mastodon hosted on indieweb.social Indieweb.Social INDIEWEB.SOCIAL is an instance focused on the evolution of #Openweb, #Indieweb, #Fediverse, #Mastodon, #Humanetech and #Calm technologies.
