What are your #openmediavault and #docker resources for installing #arrs and #qbittorrent?

Step 1 of my "Epic 2025 Cloud Exodus Saga" is complete.

I have a personal cloud. It's that thing right there.

Safely at home behind a NAT but reachable over Tailscale for SMB shares and a reverse proxy on an Oracle VPS for NextCloud.

This was hell. I can't believe I actually made it work.

He reemplazado #ArchLinux con una instalación de #OpenMediaVault y en una tarde he podido configurar más cosas de mi servidor que en varios meses con Arch. Sí es cierto que no habría podido resolver temas de hoy sin la práctica que he ganado y porque me fío ahora más de tocar configuraciones complicadas. Pero aún así, no puedo evitar arrepentirme de la decisión que tomé. Además, por ahora el NVME no ha petado, así que creo que podría haber llorado muchísimo menos.

Moraleja: No os compliquéis.

pues creo que me he decidido sobre el setup de mi #NAS:
SO: #OpenMediaVault
Discos: 4x10tb, en pares con mirroring (usando zfs). para un total usable de 20tb.

Los dos sets irán juntos con mergerFS

Dudé mucho si usar un solo zpool de los 4 discos (2 vdevs) o mergerFS. al final decidí por mergerFS por tres razones:

-Energía: solo los discos en uso necesitan activarse, en mi caso serian 0,2 o 4 (con los 4 en zfs siempre serian los 0 o 4)

-No hay necesidad de calcular paridades en caso de fallo.

-Flexibilidad: Si uso un solo zpool no puedo separar los discos sin perder todo. mergerFS me permitiría mover las cosas un poco en el futuro si lo necesito.

Honestamente es posible que decida ir por snapraid en lugar de los mirrors en zfs, pero lo veo improbable. Pero todavía tengo tiempo para cambiar mi decisión porque no me han llegado ni los discos ni la caja.

Question about deeper tech than I'm strictly speaking qualified for: When setting up, say, a bunch of remote access harddrives on my home network, how am I supposed to distinguish between the drives when all I can see (in #OpenMediaVault, in my case) is the... location I guess, this thing: /dev/sda1 - and/or the uuid, none of which contain anything like the name of the drive?

The drives aren't empty so it matters which is which.

Tech question: I am just barely able to run things like #Octoprint, #OpenMediaVault and #HomeAssistant on a #RaspberryPI - would I be stumped trying the same kind of things on #Odriod, or is the difficulty level comparable (including available help at the end of a web search)...?

Hey file server / NAS folks, I'm not very well versed in bulk storage, but I have a huge pile of hard drives of various sizes and I've kind of just been stuffing them into my server and accessing them individually with OMV. What would be a better option for automatically managing a pile of different sized disks with some form of safety and/or redundancy? I'm not looking to do anything crazy, I just dont wanna lose any stuff if something happens.
