If anyone knows how to fix the "org.freedesktop.dbus.error.serviceunknown" error for the Tuba Flatpack in Xubuntu let me know!
In theory I've all the necessary software installed for the app to access the gnome keyring, not sure what I'm missing
Sure, February's almost over. But you still want a monthly @xubuntu update... right?
In this exciting update*:
- Xubuntu 24.04.2 was just released!
- Xubuntu 25.04 Feature Freeze is now in effect!
- RISC-V support for the xubuntu-desktop package!
- Print Preview works for the first time in years!
- Lots and lots of package updates!

(*You know it's exciting because of all the exclamation marks)
I remember in the late 90s installing Red Hat #Linux for the first time, booting into X, and thinking "OMG I'm in love".
That feeling has never dissipated.
I hopped from Red Hat to Mandrake and then to Ubuntu and loved every minute. Then I discovered gaming and, to my regret, I had to use Windows.
Nowadays, my life is very different - I became more and more disabled over the years - and found myself having to survive on benefits.
I have 2 machines: a 2014 MacBook Air and an 8 year old PC. The laptop cannot run MacOS and support for Windows10 was being withdrawn. Being on benefits, buying a new machine is out of the question. Money is just too tight. So, once again, I was drawn to Linux.
I installed #Xubuntu on the laptop and #Kubuntu on the PC. It has breathed new life into both computers. They run flawlessly and am incredibly grateful for them.
If and when the time comes where I can afford a new PC, I won't be effing around. Linux will be installed on it.
M$/Apple are my past.
Do you have a few minutes to spare in the next few days? Mind testing a @xubuntu point release?
#Xubuntu 24.04.2 is ready for testing on https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/465/builds
It features #Linux kernel 6.11 (formerly 6.8) and numerous bug fixes, including the obscure xfce4-panel crash on close: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-panel/+bug/2064846
For an in-depth look at the package changes, you can take a peek at our manifest diff: https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-manifest/compare/24.04.1...noble-daily-live#diff-24e130eca188654ec3287ec9ba8d0473192ef822b12d48148254c7f357e5e4b1
Thanks for any testing you can provide (and record in the test tracker)!
My bad boy HP Stream 14 got a new battery. After 8 years of honorable service he's got a little exhausted. But after this refreshment he's as bright as ever.
It's been probably a dozen books that I have translated on this laptop since 2017.
He saw #Xubuntu , #Manjaro , #FreeBSD , #OpenBSD and now runs #Slackware (not sure for how long, though).
Xubuntu 25.04 Preparing Xfce 4.20 Desktop Upgrade
—Phoronix
「 All of those Xfce 4.20 goodies are on the way for Xubuntu 25.04 due out in April. Published this weekend was the January 2025 Xubuntu 25.04 development update that includes landing Xfce 4.20 components such as the Thunar 4.20 file manager, Xfce4-panel 4.20, Xfdesktop 4.20, and other Xfce 4.20 components 」
Welcome to 2025! The first @xubuntu development update of the year is now available! The latest updates to arrive in 25.04 "Plucky Puffin" include Xfce 4.20, GIMP 3.0, and many smaller updates that refresh the Ubuntu base.

#Xfce 4.20 chegou a #Debian #sid (unstable) hoje.
Beyond the release of Xfce 4.20, I've also been thinking about theming in Xubuntu.
We've long shipped the Greybird and Numix themes. Greybird was developed largely internally ( Shimmer Project), but hasn't had much love in recent years. The same can be said for Numix.
What themes do you recommend that are well-maintained and work well with Xfce, MATE, and GNOME? Would they be a good fit for Xubuntu?
GIMP 3.0 RC1 has landed in @xubuntu 25.04!
Check it out on today's daily build: https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/
We're still early in the Ubuntu 25.04 "Plucky Puffin" development cycle, but Xubuntu is already making some positive improvements! There's already a lot to like with an updated icon theme, improved Super key support, and expanded image support. Here's your Xubuntu Development Update for December 2024!

@xubuntu 25.04 development is now open! The first daily builds landed today.

My X profile is finally dead. Every tweet was deleted, every image was removed, and every privacy setting was enabled. What a freeing experience!
I'm looking forward to being more active here and on Bluesky (https://bsky.app/profile/bluesabre.bsky.social), posting more frequently about #Xubuntu and #OpenSourceSoftware.
